If two and a half hours worth of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen isn’t enough to get you pumped up for the new film, then know this: The IMAX cut will be even longer! Director Michael Bay promised fans on his blog that the IMAX version of Transformers 2 will be longer and include extra robot fighting. Yup, it’s kinda like the regular film … just super-sized. Also keep in mind that four scenes of the new Transformers movie were shot with IMAX cameras, much like the special scenes shot for The Dark Knight.
Bay says, “The way to see this movie is on IMAX. Never before has there been 4k rendered character animation shot on full IMAX 70 mm film. This is a first and the results are stunning. You will see Optimus Prime in a few shots where he is actually perfectly to scale on the IMAX 50 foot tall screens." Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen just premiered in Tokyo today, and we’ll come back tomorrow with some early word for the curious – so stay tuned!
Harry Potter’s IMAX Release Delayed Two Weeks?
And speaking of IMAX, a whole bunch of different sites are reporting today that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will not be arriving on IMAX screens the same day it hits theaters on July 15, and instead will debut on the even-bigger-screen two weeks later due to a contract IMAX has with Paramount that allows for a four-week exclusive run for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
See, because Transformers shot a few scenes with IMAX cameras, they signed a deal with IMAX to run the film for four weeks without any other movie interfering. Unfortunately the deal was signed while Half-Blood Prince was still opening this past November, which is why we’re in this situation. No official word from the studio yet as I imagine folks are scrambling to see if there’s any way around this whole thing.
James Cameron Will Direct ‘Heavy Metal’ Segment
If you’re looking for a reason to anticipate the upcoming Heavy Metal movie even more than you do now, then try this one for size: Heavy Metal publisher (and TMNT co-creator) Kevin Eastman has broken the news to Film School Rejects that James Cameron had joined David Fincher’s film as an executive producer and one of the segment directors.
For those who don’t know, Heavy Metal will consist of several animated segments (full of graphic sex, violence and craziness) based on stories from the wacky magazine of the same name. So far here are the folks directing segments: David Fincher, James Cameron, Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski. And I’m sure there’s more coming! No word on release date just yet – maybe someone can build a time machine so we can travel to a future where this flick is coming out tomorrow because … um, wow. Cannot wait!
