Could the next Iron Man installment arrive in 3D? That's what AICN is saying after their sources told them about a minute of Iron Man 2 footage that was converted to 3D and wowed studio execs. So, now, folks at Marvel and Paramount are feverishly crunching numbers to see if they'll be able to convert the film to 3D for the right price and in time for its May 7, 2010 release date.
If this goes down, it could change the way Marvel's superhero movies are made from here on out. Not only will they most likely convert the original Iron Man over to 3D to potentially help promote its sequel, but will the same then be done for Thor, Captain America and The Avengers? Or, will all of them be shot in 3D just to avoid the extra step? I personally think it's a bad idea, and the gimmick could take away from story and character – but that's me. Would you want all your Marvel movies to be served in 3D?
Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau Team for 'Cowboys & Aliens'
And speaking of Iron Man, that film's director (Jon Favreau) and star (Robert Downey Jr.) will be reuniting for what could be one of the biggest films of the summer 2011 season. Both men have jumped onto the adaptation of the graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens, which already has a script written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers), with Favreau making this his next directorial gig after Iron Man 2.
The comic shows what would happen if, during the 1800s, cowboys and Native Americans found themselves fighting off an alien invasion instead of each other. Sounds a bit far-fetched on paper, though the comic (which you can read here in its entirety) has a lot of fans – and, heck, who doesn't want to see Downey Jr. playing a rough-and-tough cowboy battling a whole slew of aliens? Watch 'Star Trek' in IMAX…Again
Did you miss Star Trek earlier this summer when it rolled through theaters and impressed pretty much everyone with its fun, adventurous vibe? Okay, maybe you did watch it once or seven times, but did you see it in IMAX? Those interested in screening the film on that giant screen one more time before it disappears on DVD shelves will be happy to hear that it's being re-released on IMAX screens on September 4th for a limited run at 85 theaters in the US and Canada.
