Now that Seth McFarlane has successfully taken over the Fox network with animated programs like Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad, it's about time the raunchy, comedic funnyman ventured into big-screen territory to see if his brand of humor can be sustained for more than 22 minutes at a time. Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has acquired Ted, which will mark the directorial debut of Seth McFarlane, and is based off a script written by McFarlane and his Family Guy cohorts Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild.
This may make fans of McFarlane's toons very happy, however those under the age of 17 will unfortunately be out of luck. The plan right now is to make Ted – which will mix live-action with a CG main character, to be voiced by McFarlane – a fully loaded hard-R comedy. So, while you're able to throw on Fox and watch Family Guy no matter how old you are, there will be some restrictions when it comes to Ted, described as a "Hard R comedy about a man and his teddy bear."
One can only imagine the filthy, foul-mouthed things McFarlane has planned for this tale about a man and his teddy bear, and it's probably a good thing it'll be rated R since we won't want any parents accidentally stumbling in with their kids thinking they're about to watch something all cute and cuddly. All parties want to get the film into production this year, though they'll need to figure out where to carve out some time for McFarlane since he's already pretty busy working on his other three shows.
