Have you ever wanted to feel like you were actually inside a horror movie... minus having to actually fight for your life, of course?
If your answer falls somewhere between "Heck yeah!" and "Um... yes?" then you're gonna want to check out what Insidious: Chapter 3 has hidden up its creepy little sleeve.
As technology continues to evolve, movies are looking for new, unique ways to give audiences a more immersive experience. Much of that of late has revolved around the use of virtual reality and 4DX, the latter of which refers to movie theaters outfitted with vibrating seats and other nifty effects, like water and scents that all help add to the experience of watching a film.
Insidious: Chapter 3, due in theaters on June 5, is becoming the first horror movie to not only launch a touring virtual-reality experience, but they're also making it so you can experience the film's expanded VR components at home, too.
Right now the film is touring in a variety of cities, bringing an experience that's part haunted house and part virtual reality, via the use of those Oculus Rift headsets you've been hearing about.
Here are the cities and tour dates
You can inquire about tickets right here.
And a description of the experience...
"It’s essentially a virtual haunted house. You sit down with Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), she warns you something is coming and then into The Further you go. On top of that, the 4D component is also paired with a short but effective walk-through haunted house. The first truck trailer is a waiting room filled with familiar props from the Insidious films. From there, you’re instructed to make your way to your 4D room, but in order to get there, you’ve got to walk down a hallway where there may be things eager to jump out and scare you." [via Collider]
Of course you need a short video that shows you around the space
Also, how you can experience this at home
If you can't make a tour date, you can still experience the virtual reality portion by downloading an application on your mobile device and using Google Cardboard, an inexpensive virtual reality headset that will be given away through the Insidious Facebook page. (You can also snag one online for under five bucks.)
Let us know if you try it out! Well, that's if you have the guts...
