October is approaching, which means you're gonna want to get your scare on. Naturally Hollywood wants you to get your scare on too, so they're doling out a few freaky flicks throughout the month in an effort to celebrate the spookiest time of the year. One of those films is Sinister, which hits theaters on October 12 and stars Ethan Hawke as a true-crime novelist who moves his family to a new neighborhood in order to research his latest book only to uncover a sinister series of deaths that hit a little too close to home ... literally.

In honor of Sinister's upcoming release, Fandango is stoked to debut this creepy cinemagraph (or motion image) from the film. In it Hawke is startled by the discovery of his walls covered in red markings. What are the markings and how do they factor into the film? Well, you'll have to see it to find out. Sinister is one of those movies you'll be thankful for after you see it. Not only is it hands down the scariest movie of the year, but it's smart, well-acted and expertly directed by Scott Derrickson, who previously brought us The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The crowd at Fantastic Fest devoured this evil little thing and begged for more, even if they did watch half the movie with one hand covering their eyes. The biggest credit goes to Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill, who crafted a script that ripped the familiarity out of the supernatural horror genre and took it to some new, frightening places. 

If you're the kind of person who likes a good scare at the movies in October, you will not go wrong with this one. Just make sure you bring along someone to grab hold of because there will be grabbing ... and jumping ... and screaming ... and don't you love October!
