With tickets now officially on sale for Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, fans are counting down the days till June 22 when summer's biggest movie claws its way into theaters everywhere. The highly anticipated follow-up to one of the most successful films of all time, Fallen Kingdom promises more dinosaurs on screen then ever before. They'll join returning stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard -- and series favorite Jeff Goldblum -- in a thrilling and action-packed story that will expand the Jurassic mythology in a direction we've never quite seen before.

To celebrate tickets going on sale for Fallen Kingdom, Fandango spoke exclusively to visionary director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, A Monster Calls) about the sequel, how it separates itself from the rest of the series and he teases of all the new dinosaurs joining in on the action this time around.

Fandango: What’s something we’re going to see in Fallen Kingdom that we haven’t seen from a Jurassic movie yet?

J.A. Bayona: Three years after the disaster that took place in Jurassic World, the problem with the dinosaurs has become global. For the first time, we return to the island not to rescue people from dinosaurs but to rescue the dinosaurs themselves from a volcano that is about to erupt for the second time. The relationship that man now shares with the dinosaurs is more emotional and we establish a moral debate that I feel is very interesting - do we have to save the dinosaurs or let nature run its course and let them die?

Fandango: How does the film deepen the Jurassic mythology?

Bayona: Since the moment we blow up the island and the park is gone, there is a statement: forget the past, forget all of that you've seen, we're going to face the future. And the future that we show is something we've never seen before. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is brave and original and continues the mythology, but also expands to places and situations that we’ve never seen before.

Fandango: Just how many dinosaurs are actually in this movie?

Bayona: This is, without a doubt, the Jurassic movie with more dinosaurs than any of the others. We have all the dinosaurs from the first film and we’ve added new ones that I think fans will deeply appreciate such as the Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Sinoceratops and the Allosaurus. One the kids will probably remember is the Stygimolich, who is very fun and gives us some comedic moments. And I'm especially fond of a new hybrid dinosaur that we have designed: The Indoraptor.

Fandango: Oooh, tell us more about the Indoraptor...

Bayona: I think the audience is going to enjoy the Indoraptor. It's a terrifying creature involved in some of the best parts of the movie. I think we all remember some of the terrifying scenes we saw when watching Steven Spielberg's first Jurassic Park film, and the Indoraptor will take the audience to very similar, high tension moments.

Fandango: What do you think will surprise audiences the most when they see this film?

Bayona: I think the audience doesn't expect the gothic tone of the second half of the film. After an incredible adventure on the island with amazing action scenes, the film takes us to Lockwood mansion, the place where the first dinosaurs were created. It's a place with a claustrophobic atmosphere and some of the best tension-filled moments that have ever happened in a Jurassic movie. It also has a very special tone that resembles a fairy tale, with its castle, princess and even a dragon. I think it's something the young ones will enjoy.

Fandango: As a new director to the series, what were you most interested in bringing to it? How did you want to leave your mark?

Bayona: I've always felt inclined to make sure the audience experiences the story with full intensity. In this sense, this film is an emotional roller coaster.  I hope the audience laughs, gets frightened, jumps out of their seats and enjoy it in a way they never have before. I think they will feel as close as ever to the dinosaurs. I also hope that this story makes them think about the special relationship man has towards nature and all the living creatures that live in it.
