Downton Abbey: A New Era

Things are changing for the better in Downton Abbey: A New Era. Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) and his beloved wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) are still adjusting to changes instituted by their daughter, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), who is determined to bring everyone fully into the 20th century, even as a film crew arrives to shoot a silent motion picture on location. Meanwhile, Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith) is unperturbed by news that her presence is requested at a villa she inherited in the south of France. She asks members of her family to go in her place.

Our exclusive clip begins outdoors. Lady Mary notifies the visiting film director that he is needed on a phone call. Inside, Lady Grantham and Lady Merton (Penelope Wilton) have a chat about the relative merits of silent films versus talking motion pictures. As usual, Lady Grantham has the last word.
