We knew Avengers: Infinity War would be huge, but who could have dreamed the movie would be the biggest of all time? Marvel had a really great opening weekend with the latest installment of its cinematic universe, and we've compiled the record-breaking figures to prove it.

Infinity War had the...

The very best opening of all time:

Disney beat its own domestic box office champ with Infinity War debuting to an estimated $258.2 million, which is just a good deal above the $248 million Star Wars: The Force Awakens grossed in its 2015 opening weekend. Accounting for inflation, Star Wars still reigns by a tiny amount, though globally the Avengers sequel was on top with no caveats with $640.8 million.

The best domestic opening for a superhero movie:

If we do allow Star Wars to keep its crown for having sold slightly more tickets overall, Infinity War still wins for its genre. Inflation or not, this third Avengers movie beat the 2012 original.

The best domestic opening for a spring release:

Maybe Infinity War is officially starting the 2018 summer movie season, but it's still really a spring release as far as box office goes. As such, even with inflation considered, the movie had the best opening for the season and for the month of April and also for the first half of the year.

The best opening of all time in seven foreign countries:

Although it didn't have the best foreign opening of all time (that belongs to The Fate of the Furious), Infinity War did break records in a number of countries. These include Mexico ($25.1 million), Brazil ($18.8 million), the Philippines ($12.5 million), Indonesia ($9.6 million), South Korea ($39.2 million), Thailand ($10 million) and Malaysia ($8.4 million).

The best opening for a superhero movie in three foreign countries:

Additionally, while Infinity War didn't have the best opening ever in France, Germany or Spain, the Avengers sequel did have the best opening for a superhero movie in these countries, with respective takes of $17.7 million, $14.7 million and $8.3 million.

The best opening for a Hollywood movie in India:

Infinity War didn't have the best opening ever for movies in general in India, but it did out-gross all other Western titles with its $18.6 million debut.

The best Saturday gross ever:

After faring just below The Force Awakens on Friday (including Thursday previews), Infinity War began pulling ahead on Saturday. Its $83 million grossed on its second day is the most ever earned by any movie on any Saturday ever, even with inflation.

The best Sunday gross ever:

Infinity War continued its charge on Sunday, bringing in an estimated $69.2 million. That's also more than any movie has ever earned on a Sunday, even with inflation.

Fastest time to $150 million:

While just one of three movies to reach $100 million on its first day, Infinity War was still out-grossed its first day by The Force Awakens. Then it became only the fifth movie to reach $150 million on its second day, and it out-grossed the other four (which includes The Avengers).

Fastest time to $200 million:

Similarly, Infinity War became the sixth movie ever to reach $200 million in three days, joining fellow Marvel titles The Avengers and Black Panther. It was the highest-grossing of all of them, so it takes first place.

Fastest time to $250 million:

Seeing as how Infinity War is the only movie to ever reach $250 million in its opening weekend, this marker is pretty obvious.

Widest opening for a live-action movie:

One of the factors that helped Infinity War reach such a high gross is its theater count. With 4,474 screens, the Avengers sequel had the widest opening after last year's animated feature Depicable Me 3. With so many locations, Infinity War kept sell-outs to a minimum and managed the second-best wide-release per-theater average of all time.

Best Rotten Tomatoes audience score for the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

This may change over time as more users submit their ratings, but as of now Infinity War has the best audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of all the MCU titles, with 93%.

Best IMDb rating for the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

Likewise, this could change, but as of this writing Infinity War has a rating of 9.0 from users on IMDb, which makes it the favorite there out of all the MCU installments.
