Christian Bale was assaulted by guards while attempting to visit blind activist Chen Guangcheng, who has been confined to his home since being released from prison more than a year ago. Apparently, the guards didn't recognize Bale who is in China to promote his new film The Flowers of War.

Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) is in talks for a supporting role for the rival-magicians comedy Burt Wonderstone. The movie stars Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey with a supporting cast of James Gandolfini, Olivia Wilde and Steve Buscemi. Filming begins next month.

Time to catch up on this week in movie awards. This week featured the Screen Actors Guild nominations and Golden Globes nominations but a couple smaller critics’ circles also unveiled their winners. The African American Film Critics chose Tree of Life as best picture and Shame's Steve McQueen for best director. Woody Harrelson and Viola Davis took best actor and actress awards, respectively. Meanwhile, Hugo and The Artist topped the list of nominees for The Critics Choice Awards.
Four more critics’ circles announced their winners. New York and Boston Critics Circles named The Artist as best picture while Los Angeles went with The Descendants and San Francisco choosing Tree of Life.
The novel from which Drive was adapted has received a sequel, prompting talk of a film sequel somewhere down the road. The sequel will time jump the story six years into the future. Driver is now living in Phoenix and someone wants him dead. Who? Why? Cue desert car chase sequence!
Apparently Universal Home Entertainment isn't content with just one prequel in the Death Race series and thus they're bringing us Death Race 3, a continuation of the second movie that starred Luke Goss, Danny Trejo and Ving Rhames. The story will take place in South Africa (?!) and will involve Frankenstein (Goss) racing to save the lives of his pit crew.

A diamond ring given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton fetched $8.8 million while a pearl/diamond/ruby necklace went for more than $11.8 million. The price surpassed the previous auction record for a pearl set in 2007 at Christie's auction house in New York, with the sale of the Baroda Pearls for $7 million. In total, the auction set a new record, amassing $115 million for the late star's collection of jewelry. The ring was purchased by a private buyer from Asia.
Additionally, the wig worn by Taylor in Cleopatra fetched $16,000 at an auction in Dallas, Texas.
This week in lawsuits, a former employee of James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment has filed a claim stating that he spent two years developing a film that was the basis for Avatar, but has not been sufficiently compensated for his efforts. Avatar has made $2.8 billion worldwide with a pair of sequels on the way.
