Jane Eyre Yep, yet another retelling of the Charlotte Bronte classic, but when it's done this well the material seems brand new. Mia Wasikowska, whose name you probably recognize as Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, gave an acclaimed performance in this limited-release period movie about a young governess who captures the hearts of the family she cares for.

As Jane, Wasikowska captures the viewer's heart as well, bringing to the role a careful stoicism that doesn't completely mask Jane's vulnerability and desperate desire for more than her lot in life. Director Cary Fukunaga's fresh, slightly stylized take on the century-plus-old material turns what could have been just another ho-hum version of a stodgy novel into a gorgeous, modern-feeling romance. Extras: "A Look Inside Jane Eyre" featurette with Wasikowska and Fukunaga, featurettes on the score and the stylized lighting techniques; deleted scenes (DVD/BD)
