The best film of summer (and, some may argue, the year) hit video store shelves this week, and it really doesn’t get better than this when it comes to DVD/BD. Sure, Trek series fans might complain about J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek vision not being exactly faithful to the show, but that’s why they call it a reboot—and with terrific performances from the entire cast (including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban) and a well-conceived storyline, it earned every one of its 375 million bucks, in my book. As for the transfer itself, the colors are vibrant, the effects spectacular, the sound booms and hums with pitch-perfect fidelity and there’s no unevenness going from loud action scenes to soft dialogue.
