Robin Hood The tale of a roguish antihero who roams the land far and wide robbing from the rich and giving to the poor with the help of his band of merry men has been told so many times, it now verges upon (or careens straight into) cornball, trite silliness. This time, though, Ridley Scott put Russell Crowe in the titular role, made him a lowly archer who rises through the ranks, and filmed the epic in grim, sweeping detail.
Many complained that Scott made the movie so serious that nary a smile was to be found, either offscreen or in the audience, but be that as it may, the film is technically marvelous and features several strong performances (including the always excellent, if a bit dour, Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion).
