Some sequels simply recycle what worked the first time. Others strike out in a completely different direction, searching for new magic. That seems to be the route being taken by Planes: Fire and Rescue, the follow-up to the hit animated feature Planes

Directed by Roberts Gannaway, Fire and Rescue moves plucky plane Dusty (Dane Cook) from a globe-trotting racer to a life-saving firefighter. And in preparation for the sequel, Disney shared an exclusive new poster. Check it out:

Modern Family costar Julie Bowen joins the fun this time out, stepping in as a love interest for Cook’s aerial hero. Changing up the ensemble usually helps sequels as they seek fresh ground. And Planes also blazes trails for Disney/Pixar, which recently announced its own plans for sequels to The Incredibles and Cars.

Planes: Fire and Rescue will be in theaters on July 18, 2014. The most recent trailer spotlighted some gorgeous animation. Our hopes are flying high for this sequel. How about you?
