So you’re telling me there’s still a chance?

That’s the message sent by Peter and Bobby Farrelly to Dumb and Dumber fans via Twitter Tuesday night. One of the siblings (not sure whether it was Peter or Bobby) confirmed that the screenplay for Dumb and Dumber To – the working title – is “almost done.” And, of course, he “think(s) you’re going to like it.”

But the co-directors continued to throw fuel on the fire by answering fan Tweet-backs who asked how the story will evolve. The Farrellys said that they had “nothing to do with” the silly Dumb and Dumber prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd. And instead, the script that they are writing “is following Jim C. and Jeff D.”

Now, this contradicts stories we had been hearing over the past few weeks and months that Jim Carrey was passing on the film because the studio lacked enthusiasm. Then again, Jeff Daniels contradicted Carrey’s own statement by saying that the two comedians were working with the Farrellys, and the sequel remained a possibility.

This news is the latest vote of confidence that a Dumb and Dumber sequel is, indeed, happening, and that Carrey and Daniels will reunite in service of the story.

Which is great. We don’t want to see a Dumb and Dumber sequel without Carrey and Daniels as Lloyd and Harry. Would you?
