Fans of Richard Linklater and his iconic dorm-room cult-favorite Dazed and Confused have been waiting a long time for Everybody Wants Some, deemed a sort of spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused in that it tracks a group of kids on their first day of college in the '80s instead of their last day of high school in the '70s, a la Dazed.

Now we know exactly how long we'll have to wait, as the 2016 SXSW Film Festival just announced Everybody Wants Some as its opening-night film. The festival runs from March 11-19, while the film won't hit theaters till April 15.

Inspired, of course, by the popular Van Halen song of the same name, Everybody Wants Some will chronicle the misadventures of a group of baseball players as they ready themselves for college in the 1980s. As far as we can tell it won't feature any of the characters from Dazed and Confused, and will instead star a new group of up-and-coming actors, including Will Brittain, Zoey Deutch, Ryan Anthony Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Blake Jenner, Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell.

Commenting on the announcement, SXSW chief Janet Pierson called the film "really funny, instantly quotable, and filled will great new talent,” adding, “Audiences are going to love this paean to competition and coming of age in the '80s.”

Here's more on the film's plot courtesy of the SXSW website:

Set in the world of 1980s college life, Everybody Wants Some follows a group of college baseball players as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood. Get ready for the best weekend ever.
