Last night during American Idol Universal Pictures unveiled the latest full-length trailer for Cowboys and Aliens, and it looks pretty damn rad. I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t have high hopes for this one when it was announced because, c’mon, Cowboys and Aliens? The title alone was just way too silly to be taken seriously. But then Jon Favreau (Iron Man) signed on to direct and they announced a killer cast (Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford). And then I visited the set last summer and was completely sold on not only the concept, but also the cool, old-school, slow-burn Western approach Favreau was taking with the film.
Now, as the second lengthy trailer arrives online, this has become one of my most anticipated of the summer. I respect the fact that Favreau thinks like a film geek and doesn’t want to reveal any more of the aliens than he already has, which will make it fun for us to sit down and watch an alien invasion film without knowing what the aliens look like. The summer movie season is all about the fantastic moviegoing experiences, and it’s comforting to know Favreau is trying to preserve that for us as best he can.
