The next evolution of the moviegoing experience has arrived, and if you're a fan of the Mission: Impossible movies, you'll want to get in on some of this.
American audiences in select cities can now feel like secret agents as part of a special immersive experience, this one tied to Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. In AMC IMAX locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston and San Francisco, moviegoers can take part in the Mission: Impossible Room Escape challenge.
Normally the idea of being locked in a room in a movie theater sounds awfully unsafe, namely in the event of a fire, but this experience involves just that (minus the fire), as teams of six people are trapped in a box for up to 20 minutes, during which time they need to work together, solving puzzles and unlocking clues in order to find their way out. Here's the official "assignment":
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to escape from a missing agent’s safe house with any information about the Syndicate he may have left behind. Good luck, agent.
If you've got five friends and live near one of the participating theaters, you ought to give this a try. There doesn't seem to be anything to lose, especially since the game is free, even without purchase of a ticket to the movie. But there are a limited amount of spaces in these big cities, so you should register for your spot as soon as possible at one of these theaters on one of the following dates:
New York |
AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 |
July 10 and 11 |
Boston |
AMC Loews Boston Common 19 |
July 18 and 19 |
San Francisco |
AMC Metreon 16 |
July 25 and 26 |
Los Angeles |
AMC Century City 15 |
August 1 and 2 |
If you're not familiar with the escape-room concept, watch a funny video of Conan O'Brien trying out one with a 1940s detective theme:
