We’re big horror geeks here at Fandango, but we’re even geekier for talented women who make horror movies. In this case, we’re talking about 14-year-old Emily DiPrimio who is a card-carrying member of the fright-flick fan club. She recently directed her own movie called Carver, which is a throwback to the slasher films of the 1980s.

This is Emily.

The whole project started when she was only 13. DiPrimio is reminiscent of another impressive young female filmmaker — Grow Up, Tony Phillips director Emily Hagins, who made her indie horror film Pathogen at 12. DiPrimio used Kickstarter to fund Carver, which is currently in postproduction. Here's some cool, creepy concept art from that Kickstarter campaign.

In anticipation of the final film, Emily has released a trailer for Carver, which shows a lot of promise. Watch it below.

In the early stages of the project, Emily promised to use practical effects, and she’s kept her word. Check out Emily’s blog where she describes her process and tells some behind-the-scenes stories. It’s no secret that horror cinema is dominated by men behind the scenes, so it’s always great to see a fresh, female take on the genre — especially from a young woman with immense drive and ambition.
