A few days ago, a brief snippet of footage from Michael Hoffman’s Gambit crossed the Web, hinting that a full trailer for the caper comedy would be online sooner rather than later. Sure enough, here’s your first official look at the remake of the classic Michael Caine-Shirley MacLaine vehicle, which now stars Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz:

In Gambit, Firth plays a put-upon employee of a crass corporate executive (Alan Rickman) who decides to get back at his boss by conning him into buying a worthless piece of art. But he needs the help of a rodeo cowgirl (Diaz) to pull off the con, leading to all sorts of troubles.

One reason we’re paying such attention to Gambit is because the screenplay is credited to Joel and Ethan Coen. Rarely do the siblings write something they don’t choose to direct themselves. But one look at the above trailer and it’s clear that the Coen creative fingerprints are all over this comedy.

Gambit will be in theaters in the U.S. in the beginning of 2013, though it is getting a UK release on Nov. 21. Put this one on your radars, folks, for if it’s anything like the Coens’ Fargo or Raising Arizona (which it appears to mirror), we could be in for a treat.
