The 2015 summer movie season is almost here... but that doesn't mean we can't also be excited about the 2016 summer movie season, too.
X-Men: Apocalypse (in theaters May 27, 2016) started shooting this week, and director Bryan Singer has shared a photo from the set on day one of production. The Instagram photo below reminds us that Apocalypse will be set in 1983 -- and aren't you jealous of whatever characters are getting to see the original version of Return of the Jedi on the big screen? (We secretly hope Singer has one of the X-Men humming "Ewok Celebration" (aka "Yub Nub") as they exit the cinema.)
Singer also posted another photo this week showing an arcade set he had built at the Montreal mall where they're filming.
Meanwhile, candid, unofficial photos have popped up online showing the newly recast younger mutants, as Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Jubilee (Lana Condor) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) get set to shoot a scene. Plus, recently got our first look at Smit-McPhee in the blue-skinned role courtesy of Singer, too.
As for more concrete updates on the movie, Singer sent Empire a few pieces of concept art we haven't seen before, plus a better look at the Archangel art he'd teased on Instagram previously. That's up first, showing the character (played on screen by Ben Hardy) with and without his metal wings.
Next we've got a cutaway image of the Blackbird and its engine while Professor X and two others (Moira and Beast?) examine the jet.
Here is a new version of Professor X's Cerebro helmet:
Finally, here's something from much earlier than 1983, an ancient Egyptian setting:
What say you? Liking everything you're seeing from X-Men: Apocalypse so far?
