After successfully predicting that Alice in Wonderland would win the weekend last week (high fives, anyone?), this weekend could finally knock Burton's 3D trip to Wonderland off its magical box office pedestal. Only two major wide releases to go around, but one of them just happens to come from the folks who brought us that lovable green ogre, Shrek. Let's take a look …
What's The Scoop: The latest from DreamWorks Animation (Shrek, Monsters vs. Aliens) comes this animated 3D tale about a boy Viking who aspires to hunt dragons until he becomes the unlikely owner of a dragon himself.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: It's an animated family fantasy adventure from the folks behind Shrek…and it's in 3D. If that's not the recipe for box office success, I don't know what is.
What's The Scoop: Four guys party in a hot tub at a ski lodge only to somehow wake up the next day back in 1986, where they'll have to do everything like they did back then or else risk never returning home.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Its R-rating may hurt the film's chances of beating those bigger 3D beasts, but solid word of mouth (it's definitely a funny flick) may help it earn some respectable dollars when it's all said and done.
My Prediction: I'm definitely going with How to Train Your Dragon to finally take out Alice in Wonderland and claim victory at the box office this weekend. That, friends, is my lock of the week.
