Ahhhhhhhhhh! Is that the appropriate amount someone should scream when getting ready to write about the next Scream sequel? You tell me. Here’s hoping audiences will be screaming in terror instead of boredom this weekend when the Scream franchise makes its triumphant return to theaters. But while Scream 4 gets ready to murder the box office, it’ll have to go up against a kinder, gentler animated film during a time when the kid’s stuff is dominating. Who will win? Who will lose? And will Neve Campbell survive for more than 10 minutes? Let’s take a look …
What’s The Scoop: Years after terrorizing teenagers with a knife and a weird voice, Ghostface is back and on the attack. Some of our old survivors (Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox) return to team up with a whole new set of teens in an attempt to get to the bottom of this latest series of killings.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: We’ve been anticipating this franchise’s return for awhile, and I can’t be the only one itching for a decent scare at the movie theater. Look for this to do well with the teens and those who really love the original trilogy.
What’s The Scoop: Animated film about a bird named Blu who flies off to Rio de Janeiro with the bird of his dreams. Hilarity ensues.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: The Angry Birds tie-in game may have helped this one in terms of advanced buzz, and animated films have been dominating the box office as of late.
My Prediction: Tough for me to go against an animated film (especially while they’re enjoying such a good run), but I’m betting people line up to see the new Scream more than they do Rio. So, yeah, Scream 4 it is!
My Pick of the Weekend: I’d go see Scream 4. If you’re a fan of the original, I’m hearing this is the next best in the franchise. Go have fun with it and let us know what you think.
