Last week belonged to the Ashton Kutcher/Natalie Portman film No Strings Attached, which romanced moviegoers to the tune of $19.7 million last week. Not far behind was The Green Hornet ($17 million) and The Dilemma ($9 million), followed by awards favorites The King’s Speech ($7.8 million) and True Grit ($7.3 million). This week we say goodbye to what felt like a month full of mediocre comedies and hello to some action and a few scares. Let’s take a look …

What’s The Scoop: In this remake of a 1972 Charles Bronson film, Jason Statham stars as an elite hit man who teaches his trade to a man (Ben Foster) that has a connection to one of his previous victims.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Jason Statham means action and Ben Foster means good acting, so combining these two in a film should produce good results.

What’s The Scoop: Anthony Hopkins returns to scary movies in this film about an American priest who travels to Italy to study at an exorcism school.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: It’s been awhile since we’ve had a decent scary movie, and word has it this is a pretty freaky thrill ride. Plus, you can never go wrong with Anthony Hopkins, whose horror movie past includes the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs.

My Prediction: This week is a bit tough, and it all comes down to whether folks are tired of the comedies and want something different in their movie-watching diet. I think I’m going to stick with No Strings Attached for another weekend since I don’t believe either of these films have enough buzz to take out the champ. Though if it happens, look for The Rite – which has been airing commercials for almost a month now – to come out victorious.
Now it’s your turn – tell us which film you think will win the box office this weekend.
