Fans have been clammoring for years for Spider-Man to sling webs alongside Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk, but unfortunately the dreaded world of corporate licensing has thwarted that possibility time and time again. You see, Marvel had licensed Spidey to Sony long before it started its current Marvel Cinematic Universe, and since Sony kept making movies with him, Marvel couldn't take him back. It's the same reason that the X-Men, which belong to Fox, can't appear in any of the Disney movies, either.

That could all change soon enough. Or, if this big rumor from the folks at Latino Review is to be believed, it already has changed.

According to their report, Sony and Marvel have come to an arrangement that would mean Spider-Man can now swing into the MCU, and that his first movie will be Avengers: Infinity War -- Part 1.

That's the spoiler-free part of their big report, though. They also claim to know the fates of Marvel's core Avengers team and how each of them will be ending up in Captain America: Civil War and Thor: Ragnarok before Infinity War. If true, some of those fates are serious spoilers, so we're not going to include them here, but do hop over to LR if you absolutely must scratch that Marvel-spoiler itch.

In the meantime, feel free to start daydreaming about what Spider-Man in the MCU might be like. Would you keep Andrew Garfield? Would you recast? Are you going to be devastated if this rumor ends up not being true?

That last part is entirely possible, by the way. The LEGO Movie creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently talked about a potential animated Spider-Man movie that they're linked to at Sony, and verified that that project is one of many that may come to fruition. If it does, it'd be quite strange for Sony to do both an animated version and loan the character out to Marvel. Only time will tell what they end up actually doing.
