The first action-packed trailer for Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War has finally dropped, and it is stuffed with all sorts of moments Marvel fans have been waiting to see on screen for years. Here is the official synopsis for the film, which hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
"As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain."
Infinity War drops onto screens only a couple of months after Black Panther, but perhaps the closest connection to the third Avengers movie so far (that we know of) comes at the very end of Thor: Ragnarok. For those who've seen the new Thor movie -- and we're about to drop spoilers for those who haven't -- the film ends with Thor, Bruce Banner, Valkyrie, Korg and various Asgardians escaping a destroyed Asgard only to find themselves confronted by a new enemy approaching...
Cut to the brand spankin' new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War! Check it out below.
Here are some of our favorite moments from the trailer...
Best Thor: Ragnarok Tie-In Moment
The best place to start is actually at the end of the trailer, where we see Thor get picked up by the Guardians of the Galaxy following what we assume will be a confrontation between Thor's crew and Thanos's crew. The unreleased Comic-Con trailer for the film shows Thor drifitng through space alone and apparently dead before being picked up by the Guardians and brought back to life by Mantis. The next scene looks to be the one featured in this new trailer, and will likely occur close to the beginning of the movie.
Coolest Superhero Costume Upgrade
Danger returns to New York City, as it appears that will be one of Thanos's stops in his attempt to collect the Infinity Stones. We see various heroes in and around the Big Apple when trouble springs up (including Tony Stark and Doctor Strange), but none are more daring and exciting to watch than Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. First, Peter's spidey sense crashes his school-bus ride leading to a glorius Spider-Man action shot highlighting the new suit we got a glimpse of at the very end of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Greatest Superhero Smackdown
Based on the trailer, it would appear Wakanda will play a major role in the film, acting as the location of one of the film's biggest battles. Rumors abound that Wakanda is where the final Infinity Stone (the Soul stone) is located, and it is in Wakanda that we find heroes like a shieldless Captain America and Black Panther throwing the smackdown on an army of four-armed beasts.
Best Villain Entrance
And speaking of Thanos and the Infinity Stones, here is the man himself, played by Josh Brolin, sporting his acquisition of two of the stones. Can he collect them all? And if he does, what happens then?
Most Anticipated Potential Romance
This one's a toss up between two couples who've been creepin' on one another for multiple movies now. So who is the most anticipated superhero hook-up?
Vision and Scarlet Witch?
Bruce Banner and Black Widow?
Favorite Returning Character
Okay, so the Hulkbuster armor isn't exactly a character, per se, but it's great to see the suit make a return following its memorable appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, that's likely not Iron Man in the suit, but Bruce Banner. (You can also spot the suit lying next to Banner in the above shot with Black Widow).
Most Memorable Moment
Sure you've got Thanos slamming Spider-Man to the ground and Thor trying to destroy whatever that giant circle-like portal is, but nothing tops the "hero run" towards the end of the preview, featuring a line-up that includes Captain America, Black Panther, the Hulk, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Falcon and more. Who will win that battle, and who will lose? One thing we know is the Marvel Cinematic Universe won't ever be the same.
