From Lizerne Guiting: Some lucky fanboys can snag a limited special addition Astro Boy T-shirt at Anime Expo 2008, July 3-6 at the L.A. Convention Center (Booths 913 and 915), where Imagi Studios and Summit Entertainment will showcase its CG-animated film adaptation of the popular manga. It’s slated for a 2009 release and features the voices of actors Nicolas Cage, Freddie Highmore, and Donald Sutherland.

Considered the Mickey Mouse of Japan, Astro Boy is known for its creator, "god of manga" Osamu Tezuka, who is a pioneer of Japanese graphic novels. The Pinocchio-esque sci-fi tale is set in Metro City, where humans co-exist with androids. A brilliant scientist creates Astro Boy after the tragic death of his son, but rejects the robot when he can’t fill the father’s emotional void. Astro falls into the hands of a more compassionate legal guardian, who discovers Astro Boy’s crime-fighting superpowers, as well as his ability to experience human emotions.
Will these nostalgic 2D characters make great CG eye candy? Check it out this weekend and let us know.
