A proposed Aretha Franklin biopic has been floating around for several years now. A few years ago, Aretha has spoken out about the project, objecting to the non-chronological approach to her life story.
Now Aretha is drumming up buzz about the project, telling Glamour that "the movie is being directed by Taylor Hackford." "We are fine-tuning the treatment now. The treatment has four acts. He has finished all four. We're now reworking some of it where it needs work: 'A little more drama, tell me something else, what else happened here? We need a little more of this, a little more of that.'"
Franklin says that she and Hackford are pretty much in agreement on actors and actresses.
"Each name that I put out there, he likes. The names he put out there, I like. We have a happy medium there."
Despite initially liking Billy Dee Williams for the role of her father, Aretha now says she would like Denzel Washington to play the role. "If he put a little more weight on and glasses, he could handle it," she said.
As for the lead role, Aretha has three actresses in mind.
"We have Jennifer Hudson, Audra McDonald and Halle Berry. That's the last three." What's unclear is if these are the final three actresses on their wish list or these are the final three who want to be involved in the project.
All in all though, it seems like positive movement in getting the project moving forward. Who do you think should play Aretha on the big screen? It almost has to be Hudson, right?
