When will we get to see the Lego Movie sequels and spin-offs?

Warner Bros. has set new dates for the next three animated features in their Lego Movie franchise, and they've also officially given the sequel a perfectly literal title: The Lego Movie Sequel. That will now come out on February 18, 2018, exactly four years after the first installment.

As for the two spin-offs, The Lego Batman Movie arrives in theaters on February 10, 2017, while Ninjago, which had originally been scheduled for next year, will instead be released on September 22, 2017.

 

What about that one codirected by Jason Segel?

There's no official word yet on when Segel and Drew Pearce's The Billion Brick Race will hit screens, but it's believed this spin-off will fill the May 24, 2019, release date previously bookmarked by Warner Bros. for the Lego Movie franchise.

 

What other exciting animated movies does Warner Bros. have on the way?

The studio has announced a new original feature titled Storks, which will be written and codirected by regular Segel collaborator Nicholas Stoller (The Five-Year Engagement). This time he's partnering with Doug Sweetland, formerly of Pixar and an Oscar nominee for its 2008 animated short Presto. Storks takes the 2016 release date vacated by Ninjago: September 23.

Will Storks be an animated look at storks in the wild?

No, Storks will not be a nature film about the long-legged birds but a comedy involving the myth of storks delivering babies. 

 

Didn't we already see that movie?

The idea may remind you of the beginning of Disney's Dumbo or of the 2009 Pixar short Partly Cloudy. Presumably this feature will have its own approach and look totally different. 

 

Is anyone attached for vocal roles in Storks yet?

Yes, so far there's Andy Samberg, who voiced characters for Sony's Hotel Transylvania and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movies and cowrote and performed the Oscar-nominated song "Everything Is Awesome" for The Lego Movie, and Kelsey Grammer, whose animated roles include Stinky Pete the Prospector in Toy Story 2 and Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons.
