The Alamo Drafthouse has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the greatest movie theaters in the history of mankind…or at least the history of movie theaters. With their signature events, ample food and drink selection, and strict no-talking policy, they make obsolete all tawdry multiplexes and completely redefine the movie-going experience. Here’s what they’re up to this week!
Thursday April 19th
Super Troopers Quote-Along
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
“In 2002, the boys at Broken Lizard realized that America had been missing something we couldn't live without anymore. This was before Reno 911, remember, and in those dark days of the early millennium, it had been more than seven years since the final Police Academy movie. People were starting to forget that law enforcement in this country is run by a bunch of lovable schlubs who like to prank each other, steal drugs from the stash they confiscated, and totally hook up with each other in all sorts of awesome places (like the back of a police car). But then we got to see a car full of stoners on their way to Canada pulled over when they were already pulled over and couldn't pull over any further, and we knew the world would be safe for cop comedy once again. With this Super Troopers Quote-Along, of course, we're hoping to make it dangerous...”—Drafthouse.com
80s Movie Anthems Sing-Along
Alamo Ritz 10:00pm
"The '80s were a great decade for music; more specifically, the marriage of music and movies never seemed more right. '80s movies changed our lives one montage at a time. Whether it was Kevin Bacon cutting loose to some Kenny Loggins or Rocky pumping up to beat Drago with ‘Hearts on Fire’ blaring, this music invoked so much emotion out of their downright ridiculous lyrics and synth-pop beats that we couldn't help but feel invigorated. And invigorated we were. We were so jazzed up that we're assembling all of our favorite movie songs and clips to play back-to-back-to-back in what can only be deemed an inspirational overload. Seriously, this music makes you feel like you can climb a mountain and knock out Bigfoot with one triumphant fisticuff to the air. We'll be holding out for a hero as we lament about our 9-to-5, and then we can all take to the aisles as we dance magic dance. So, throw on your favorite '80s gear, grab a tambourine, and prepare to sweat because that's the power....that's the power of love!"—Greg MacLennan via Drafthouse.com
Off-Centered Film Fest: Blazing Saddles Quote-Along Beer Party
Republic Square Park 8:00pm
“We kicked last year's Off-Centered Film Fest off with a bang by packing downtown Austin with the leading central Texas breweries and plenty of jelly donuts and a Rolling Roadshow presentation of Strange Brew and it was a blast! With this year’s Western themed craft beer-centric festivities we had to raise the bar and go all out with an amazing evening of beans, cap guns, more beans and Dom Deluise size fits of laughter! Prepare yourself for the Blazing Saddles Quote-Along outdoors in Republic Square Park surrounded by the most outrageous and delicious local beers that exist! It's twue. It's twue. It's twue, it's twue!”—Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: Having attended a Super Troopers quote-along in the past, I can attest that is among the best films to witness in the quote-along format. If the guys adopt a pre-show competition as syrupy as the one before the show I saw, you can trust that you are in for some grade-A shenanigans.
Friday April 20th
Studio Ghibli Retrospective: The Cat Returns
Alamo South Lamar (thru 4/26) Check Daily Times
"After high-school student Haru rescues an elegant black cat from being hit by a speeding delivery truck, the awkward teenager finds her locker inundated with gift-wrapped mice and her desk inscribed with crayoned cat-hieroglyphs. It turns out that the feline in question was Lune, Prince of the Cat Kingdom, and following a visit from the ultimate aristocat — the Cat King himself! — Haru is plunged into the cats' underground realm, where she finds that the hardest part of growing up is staying yourself — quite literally, when her body starts to take on an unmistakably feline cast. Alice in Wonderland meets The Metamorphosis with the never-fails kawaiifactor of cat-anthropomorphism in the debut feature by second-generation Ghibli animator Hiroyuki Morita, which carries over the popular character of The Baron (a debonair, top-hatted cat figurine come to life) from the studio's 1995 film Whisper of the Heart”—TIFF via Drafthouse.com
Off-Centered Film Fest: Once Upon a Time in the West Dogfish Head Beer Feast
Alamo South Lamar 7:00pm
“The Off-Centered Film Fest Dogfish Head Beer Feasts are the stuff of legends. This is our 5th annual year of the marriage of the minds and talents of Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and we’ve gone and raised the bar on food, drink and film pairings! Expert pairings of gourmet food and deep cuts from the insanely complex Dogfish Head portfolio. Yes, the brewery busts out special aged and hard to come by kegs from their cellars and share them with us once a year. As a result, this special event always sells out- so act fast! If you like quality craft beer, fancy-pants Italian food and/or Henry Fonda … this feast is for you. We’re coupling the 1968 epic Sergio Leone spaghetti western masterpiece with an Italian meal hopped up on gusto steroids! No need for red or white wines to accompany each epicurean course here, we’ve got 8 gorgeous beers from Dogfish, each with characteristics and nuances that mesh perfectly with the ingredients of the courses that Alamo Executive Chef John Bullington has prepared. If you’ve never seen Charles Bronson play harmonica on the big screen while eating fresh made semolina-artichoke gnocchi in truffle cream, then you haven’t lived.”—Drafthouse.com
The Labyrinth Quote-Along
Alamo Ritz 7:10pm
"Come on people – do I really need to say anything more than that to convince you that this LABYRINTH SING & QUOTE-ALONG is not to be missed, no matter what the goblins tell you they’re going to do to your little brother? David Bowie, Jim Henson, and Jennifer Connely created an unsurpassed work of young adult cinema in the 1980s, and somehow it’s never been properly celebrated until now. We’ll have subtitles on the screen for all of our favorite lines and every single song, so the whole crowd can yell them all out in unison. We’ll also have an assortment of goodies in your prop bag, including bubbles to transport us to the magical land of Sarah’s dreamy ball, balloons to pop around the theater while we sing the fireys’ song, and best of all – Whoopee Cushions to fart along with the Bog of Eternal Stench. Smells bad!! Suffice to say, if you miss this show, you most definitely have no power over me. YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME!”—Henri Mazza via Drafthouse.com
The Best of Drugs w/Owen
Alamo South Lamar 10:35pm
“The BEST OF! series continues! Get a contact high from some of the most bizarre educational and scare films of all time! Learn how marijuana transforms the kindest person into a blood thirsty, skull-smashing maniac, see how turtlenecks and biker boots are the gateway to heroin addiction, wonder at why anti-LCD films offer some of the trippiest, coolest moments celluloid history! From such black-and-white treasures as Reefer Madness and Marijuana Girl to the sincere PSAs of the 1980's featuring Pee Wee Herman, Clint Eastwood and McGruff the Crime Dog all the way to haunting neo-classic anti-meth videos of today, you'll experience the horrors, wonders and animated joys of drug education and exploitation! Owen Egerton is you guide for an evening full of comedy, live music from Southpaw Jones, and surprise guests”—Drafthouse.com
Off-Centered Film Fest: Wainy Days w/David Wain, Joe Lo Truglio & Ken Marino
Alamo South Lamar 10:45pm
“Anyone who follows the state of comedy on the internet knows that the envelope gets pushed all the time online, but Wainy Days manages to push that envelope to a wonderfully surreal place its peers just can’t compete with. We are so excited to welcome creator David Wain along with fellow writers/actors Joe Lo Truglio & Ken Marino to watch our favorite episodes and explain all the steamy/silly making out! From the brilliance of The State to the perfection of Wet Hot American Summer to the most recent awesomeness of Wanderlust, the three have been working together for over 20 years. We couldn't be more excited to drink Dogfish Head beer and watch the best episodes of Wainy Days along with the debut of some surprise clips! And guess what...you can come too! Hooray!”—Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: Alamo Executive Chef John Bullington is a culinary mad genius. If the Off-Centered Film Fest was merely providing a reparatory screening of Once Upon a Time in the West, that would be one thing. But to watch the movie while sampling Bullington’s incredible Italian feast replete with Dogfish Brewery beers is my definition of the perfect Alamo event.
Saturday April 21st
Broadway Brunch: West Side Story
Alamo Ritz Noon
“Whether you’re a Jet or a Shark, it’s always a good idea to start off your Sunday with mimosas, a tasty meal and a classic musical. Our new Broadway Brunch series continues with Academy Award-winning West Side Story, featuring the luminous Natalie Wood, the sassy Rita Moreno and the best gang dance sequence in the history of cinema. Based on the 1957 musical, this movie transplants the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet to the streets of Manhattan, where Maria and Tony fall in love despite the ongoing feud between their rival gangs. It’s a vibrant, emotionally dynamic film, and we’ll be serving up an equally compelling menu. Even if your mouth is full of tasty brunch business, you’ll still feel oh so pretty as you sing along to the spectacular music by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. Broadway Brunch is definitely one of the reasons we like to be in America, and after the show, we guarantee you’ll be singing, ‘And suddenly I’ve found, how wonderful a brunch can beeee!’”—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
The Labyrinth Quote-Along
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
Off-Centered Film Fest: Best of the Shorts Contest Screening
Alamo South Lamar 7:30pm
“The short film competition component of the Off-Centered Film Festival is a time for filmmakers and beer enthusiasts alike to come together to find common ground. As always, each entry had to include Dogfish Head and be generally “off-centered”, and this year each entry also had to have a western twist. With so much room for interpretation, we had a wide array of entries from all over the world that were all fantastic!”—Drafthouse.com
The Muppet Movie
Dick Nichols Park 8:05pm
“This simply irresistible first feature from the Muppets has Kermit the frog going from the swamps to Hollywood to be a star. As he travels and picks up his usual friends, Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) is in pursuit, looking for Kermit to be the spokesman for his frog-leg cuisine. A loose rendition of The Wizard of Oz, the film incorporates the same cagey humor as their breakout syndicated TV series The Muppet Show. Worth noting is Paul Williams' score, which includes the Oscar-nominated "The Rainbow Connection." Williams' music, much like Howard Ashman's work on The Little Mermaid and other Disney films, provides more than atmosphere; there's a degree of magic here. Join us Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Dick Nichols Park for this free event! This is a benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program and guests will be invited to donate to LLS at the event.”—Drafthouse.com
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Alamo Village 11:55pm
Thrill to all the cheap laughs, cheap women, and cheap production values of one of the world’s premier bad movies. Watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show in-and-of-itself is an event, but it takes on a whole new life when witnessed within the walls of The Alamo Village with loads of audience participation, dressed-up patrons, and general wickedness that has become a vital component to the film’s meteoritic rise to cult film legend.
Sunday April 22nd
Broadway Brunch: West Side Story
Alamo Ritz 1:00pm
Ride Share Filmshare 1 Minute Film Festival
Alamo South Lamar 3:35pm
"Acts of Sharing exists to bring friends and communities together to share our resources to enrich each other’s lives. We’ve been sharing cars since we launched, but now with the launch of RideShare we are taking this culture further. RideShare is just that---sharing a ride. We’re connecting you to the places you want to go with the people you know. Life’s better when you ride together. To celebrate our RideShare Earth Day Launch, we’re having a FilmShare competition, featuring the most fun and creative 1-2 minute videos on sharing a ride that have ever been seen. Then on April 22nd at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, we want to bring everyone together to party and enjoy all the films while awarding the best in each category.”—Drafthouse.com
Box Wine Cinema: Sleeping with the Enemy
Alamo Lake Creek 7:00pm
“There’s very few times you can feel superior to Julia Roberts. But drinking box wine while watching Sleeping with the Enemy is certainly one of those times. After all, did you marry a total psycho (with an admittedly awesome mustache) who is so obsessed with you, you had to fake your own death? No, you did not. But Julia did! And now she’s in a mess of trouble! And the only person who can help her is a guy with really huge ‘80s hair. Honestly, it’s tough to say which appears more in this movie: hair or hairy situations. While you sit back and relax in your Alamo seat, sipping on delicious cheap wine, Julia will be struggling to build a new life for herself in the shadow of her dark, tragic past. Within the thriller genre, Sleeping with the Enemy is a slightly shallow imitation of the real thing, but, just like boxed wine, it still packs a hell of a punch."—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
Stag! Live Sketch Comedy
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
“It’s no secret the Austin comedy scene is blowing up. Like awaken-a-sleeping- monster-with-atomic-breath-blowing-up. Like buy-stock-in-it-now-and-then-retire-in-3-years blowing up. Like you-don’t-need-a-third-example-because-you-get-it blowing up. The proof is in the pudding and you can find a ton of that delicious pudding* at the Third Annual Austin Sketch Fest, a four-day festival bringing you the best in local and national sketch comedy this Memorial Day weekend. Want a preview? On April 22, come down to the Alamo Ritz for a one-night only sneak peak. Austin Sketch Fest and ColdTowne Theater are partnering with Alamo-favorites Stag Comedy to bring you Sketch Night at the Alamo. One stage. Multiple groups. Live and video sketches from Stag, Your Terrific Neighbors, Hot Property and more. Also, you’ll laugh your pants off because it’s fucking hilarious. See you there!”—Drafthouse.com
Master Pancake: Choose Your Own Pancake
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:25pm
If you thought the Master Pancake troupe had a tough job before, mocking movies they’d seen a million times with pitch-perfect comedic timing, wait until you see them mock films they may never have even heard of! Bring your favorite DVD and the Master Pancake gents will narrow them down by audience vote. They will then adlib quips throughout the whole film and even make up a skit on the fly. Holy Whose Line!
TV at the Alamo: AMC’s Mad Men
Alamo Ritz 9:45pm; Alamo Lake Creek 9:00pm; Slaughter Lane 10:10pm
"We've been hooked on AMC's award-winning drama from the opening beats of the opening credits of the very first episode, and we've never looked back. The '60s style, the talk about marketing in a time when advertising was really just coming into its own, and of course Don Draper himself just keep everyone coming back for more and more. Of course, for us it's the fantasy world of drinking and smoking and taking naps in the morning, then going for a martini and oyster lunch, then smacking around Pete Campbell and calling it a workday that makes the world of Don Draper such an enticing one. For this season of Mad Men, we'll be showing two episodes back to back, the first will be the previous weeks episode, and the second will be the new episode. Then we'll skip all the commercials and delight in Draper's wit and debauchery."—Drafthouse.com
Monday April 23rd
Big Screen Classics: Cool Hand Luke
Alamo Slaughter Lane (thru /26) 7:00pm
“Most Hollywood movies about anti-authority figures often lack authenticity because, well, they're from Hollywood, but Cool Hand Luke is the real thing because Newman was the real thing, a guy who gladly and purposefully did things his own way, even at the risk of his career. It became one of his defining features and one of the things that endeared him to audiences, especially when Luke was released in 1967, and it holds up today as a testament to not only a great actor and humanitarian, but also as a terrific piece of entertainment. It's the one we'll always remember him by. HARD BOILED EGG EATING CONTEST BEFORE THE MOVIE!”—Matt Kiernan via Drafthouse.com
UT Dept of Germanic Studies: Stopped On Track
Alamo South Lamar 7:00pm
"With Q&A by director Andreas Dresen. Presented by the University of Texas Department of Germanic studies. A German postal worker's precious few months between diagnosis and death are chronicled with an acute and raw sense of honesty in Stopped on Track. Helmer Andreas Dresen's latest slice-of-German-life, after such films as Summer in Berlin and Cloud 9, recounts how an apparently healthy father, and his wife and two kids, try to cope with the man's ultimately fatal brain tumor.”—Variety via Drafthouse.com
AFF Presents: Damsels in Distress with Whit Stillman in Attendance
Alamo Village 7:00pm
“Austin Film Festival is excited to invite you to a free advance screening of Whit Stillman’s new film, Damsels in Distress, with Stillman in attendance for an introduction and Q&A! The film, Stillman’s fourth after Metropolitan (1990), Barcelona (1994), and The Last Days of Disco (1998), follows a group of beautiful girls who set out to revolutionize life at a grungy East Coast College, seeking to help severely depressed students with a program of good hygiene and musical dance numbers. However, the girls become romantically entangled with a series of men who threaten the girls’ friendship and sanity.”—Drafthouse.com

Music Monday: Weird World of Blowfly
Alamo Ritz 10:00pm
“The story of Clarence Reid, a Miami musician who wrote and produced romantic and spiritual songs for some of the greatest Southern soul and R&B acts of the 1960s and '70s. He is also the gonzo performer Blowfly, a freaky alter ego and the original X-rated rapper. Now 69 years-old, with a gold-spangled superhero costume and a catalog of the world's raunchiest tunes, Blowfly tours the world, struggling for success and recognition after 50 years of making music. A thoughtful examination of Clarence's personal and professional contradictions (despite his stage persona, he remains deeply religious and substance-free), THE WEIRD WORLD OF BLOWFLY explores his legacy and celebrates his musical and cultural significance as a rapper and soul music legend.”—Drafthouse.com
The Big Lebowski Quote-Along
Alamo South Lamar 10:35pm
If you love the Cohen Brothers’ tribute to shiftless losers with mad bowling skills and penchants for Creedence Clearwater Revival, this is the place to be. All your favorite one-liners from The Dude will flash across the screen to prompt your collective vocal worship of this masterful comedy.

Girlie Night: Say Anything
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
"In the land of ‘80s crushes, amidst the Kirk Camerons and the Jake Ryans, one man stands alone. And that man (not a guy, a man!) is Lloyd Dobler. Sure, he might not have the preppy looks of Andrew McCarthy or the real genius of Val Kilmer, but Lloyd Dobler is special. He wears a trench coat! He drives a blue Chevy Malibu! He kickboxes, which everyone knows is the sport of the future! He's great with kids! He watches Cocoon with old people, for goodness sake! And, as if all of those amazing qualities weren’t enough, here's the kicker (literally!): he will always, without fail, protect you from broken glass on the street. In other words, Lloyd Dobler is perfect, and for April’s Girlie Night, we'll give him the celebration he deserves. Join me for a night of love, heartache and, of course, songs about Joe. Keys will be collected, and if you've got a boom box lying around, well... you know what to do."—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
Terror Tuesday: The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Alamo Ritz 10:30pm
“Almighty morbidity-master Vincent Price lowers the iron fist of vengeance in this dark, brilliant and unexpectedly hilarious assault on humanity. Dr. Anton Phibes is believed killed in an auto accident while racing to his dying wife’s side. After spending years in secret among his robots and countless torture devices, he unleashes dazzlingly macabre plots to creatively annihilate the nine surgeons who failed to save his true love. Though he doesn’t physically utter a single word onscreen, Phibes is arguably Price’s single greatest character, a seething, morally berserk mastermind whose mutilated body mirrors his twisted noodle. The film itself is impossibly gorgeous; almost every shot is composed as a perfect work of art, even when acid is dripping on flesh or locusts are devouring corpses. Jonah Hill and Norbit have both been nominated for Oscars and this movie wasn’t. So if you still believe in God, you’re just not paying attention.”—Zack Carlson via Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: There are plenty of horror films that play Terror Tuesday which play to a very niche set of tastes…namely cinematic masochists. The Abominable Dr. Phibes on the other hand is a legitimately gripping and beautiful film. If not for Dr. Phibes, I can guarantee there would have been no Jigsaw.
Wednesday April 25th
Celluloid Handbag: Female Trouble
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
“There are VERY few films in life that carry this plot summary…Dawn Davenport runs away from home, is raped, becomes a single mother, criminal and glamorous model before her inevitable rendezvous with the electric chair..., but there will always be a fugged up CELLULOID HANDBAG that will glorify it’s holy name!! Join ol’ REBECCA HAVEMEYER as she hitches a ride with tha ‘ shit shack on an adventure tha’ likes of which ya’ll NEVER wanted ta’ sit on with tha’ cult classic, Female Trouble This is THE MOVIE THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE and if ya’ don’t get ya butts down to tha Ritz ta’ witness it in all it’s 35mm glory, then ya’ll can all go an suck oxygen outta some hippies balls for all I care! BRANG THA STANK and pay homage to John Waters! Do it for Taffy, people….do it for Taffy.”—Rebecca Havemeyer via Drafthouse.com

Weird Wednesday: Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things
Alamo Ritz 9:50pm
“Our explorations along the fringe of world cinema have led us to some strange places: Indonesia with its anti-colonial mythic avengers, the Philippines with its low-budget action and gaudy textiles, Nigeria with its camcorder excursions into ludicrous high drama; but closer to home there's a country with a film making culture as weird as any of those. That country is Florida. OK, maybe it's more of a state than a country per se, but trust us, they make some crazy ass movies. And with the possible exception of The Wizard of Gore none is stranger than this one. Some guy named Abe Zwick stars as a brutal transvestite whose odd, codependent relationship with his (apparently heterosexual) roommate Stanley turns murderous whenever Stanley brings a girl home. There's a lot of blood and mayhem but the tone is oddly like a John Waters movie only with more palm trees. This one is really strange and really recommended.”—Lars Nilsen via Drafthouse.com
Horror Remix: School
Alamo Lake Creek 10:00pm
“You know Horror Remix gets down with teenage-themed films from the 80s. All the John Hughes film are classics. There's even John Hughes-like imitations that are worth our time. Not to mention the screwball boob flicks like School Spirit, Computer Beach Party, or Joysticks! That's our thing. So you can image our complete fulfillment when horror films prey on students in the lovely decade of the 80s. The world just seems right. Whether the killer is a student, a teacher, the anti-christ, or some dude in a bearsuit, we don't mind. Because teenagers are getting waxed. At school. And life is good. This installment of Horror Remixes features all the best horror schlock from Fear No Evil, Girls Night Out, and Hell High!”—Drafthouse.com

Food & Film: Caddyshack Quote-Along Karbach Beer Dinner
4/20 7:00pm
“Caddyshack shows us everything that an 80s movie can be, complete with the old windbag who doesn't like kids and the misfits who just want to have fun, the random shots of boobs when you least expect them, and, of course, quotable line after quotable line. So it's got that going for it, which is nice. And we'll make it even nicer by subtitling all of our favorite lines, bringing in special props (you'd totally eat a Baby Ruth from a pool right?), and start the whole shebang off with a bit of a putting competition. We're enhancing this event EVEN more with a gourmet food and beer pairing from Houston's newest addition to the growing beer landscape KARBACH!”—Drafthouse.com

Zzang!!!: The Naked Gun
4/19 7:30pm
"FACT: Leslie Nielsen was the all-time #1 supreme force of pure comedic hammin’. Unfortunately, he and the rest of the world didn’t realize it until 1980’s Airplane, when he was already 54 years old. From that point forward, the late, great, white-topped funnyman made up for lost time in a big way, slinging goofball gags at every opportunity. Here, he reprises his square-jawed everyman hero Lt. Frank Drebin from the hilarious but doomed Police Squad TV series. In a race against crime, he’ll alienate, embarrass and/or destroy every person, place and thing within 50 miles of downtown Los Angeles. You’ll also enjoy the wacky antics of a talented young actor named O.J. Simpson. The also-late, also-great Ricardo Montalban appears as the billionaire crime lord plotting to kill the queen of England. Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy and baseball icon Reggie Jackson round out the cast. But more importantly, Weird Al Yankovic is in it! ZZANG!!!"—Drafthouse.com
Only at the Alamo: The Moth Diaries
4/20-4/26 7:30pm
“From Mary Harron, the director of American Psycho, comes The Moth Diaries, a haunting adaptation of Rachel Klein's novel of the same name. Sarah Bolger and Sarah Gadon star in this take on the classic vampire legend. Rebecca (Bolger) is instantly suspicious of Ernessa, the new addition at her all-female boarding school. Her classmates and teachers suspect that Rebecca's feelings are born from jealousy but in her heart Rebecca knows that there is something strange and supernatural about Ernaessa (Lily Cole). Scott Speedman co-stars.”—Drafthouse.com
Master Pancake: Sex & The City
4/21 7:00pm; 10:30pm
"Break out the cosmos and start reading Cosmo because we're finally going to rip apart one of the most requested Pancake movies ever: Sex and the City (2008)! Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, the film follows the tribulations of our four heroines: Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Each of the 4 ladies represents a different personality type: promiscuous, easy, trampy, and brothel-ready. To round out the cast and make it feel less WASPy, the director has given a small role to Jennifer Hudson, fresh from her 7th place finish on American Idol and still rocking a perm! For those of you who never thought you'd be interested in seeing this movie (I'm looking at you heterosexual men) think of it as Ghostbusters for women. The four main characters wear ridiculous outfits, romp around NYC, and are always getting slimed. For those of you who love this movie, it's an excuse to see it all over again, but with special humorous Pancake commentary added. Whatever your reason for coming, Master Pancake will turn this into a hysterical night you won't forget."—John Erler via Drafthouse.com
