The Alamo Drafthouse has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the greatest movie theaters in the history of mankind…or at least the history of movie theaters. With their signature events, ample food and drink selection, and strict no-talking policy, they make obsolete all tawdry multiplexes and completely redefine the movie-going experience. Here’s what they’re up to this week!
Thursday March 22
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Spaghetti Dinner
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:00pm
“The Spaghetti Western Feast is a hallowed tradition going back to the early days of the Alamo. We screen a classic Italian Western and serve up all the salad, foccaccia and spaghetti you can eat. Don't forget the red wine! Quentin Tarantino has called The Good, The Bad & The Ugly the ‘best directed film of all time’ and we wouldn't presume to disagree with him. Sergio Leone's mastery of the frame is apparent throughout. Naturally his cast doesn't hurt: Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach (who steals the movie) became instant screen icons, and deservedly so. Composer Ennio Morricone's theme song has become aural shorthand for the western itself, but the entire score is purest genius. As a film it's the richest, most satisfying evening's entertainment imaginable. Perfect proportions of violence, humor, intrigue and now pasta. Don't miss out!”—Drafthouse.com
Come see Mike Judge’s uncomfortably accurate, if slightly exaggerated, depiction of the corporate grind; staplers and TPS reports in tow. Your favorite lines will appear on the screen karaoke-style for your shouting pleasure.
The Jiggy Crunk Sing-Along
Alamo Ritz 9:45pm
“It's time to pull those parachute pants out of the closet, throw on something glittery and party like it's the 1990s. Cause if there was ever a movement that celebrated the best music paired with the most ridiculous fashion choices...it was the '90s. We're gonna be celebrating the most booty-bouncing, body-slammin', backwards-clothes-wearing decade of pop-rap with the JIGGY CRUNK SING-ALONG. We'll have cash for you to rain on people, Digital Underground glasses with nose pieces and more as you rap along to the era of timeless music. And not only that, but we're adding in some of the greats from the '00s because it didn't feel right to NOT play ‘Ignition Remix.’ So come, try and sing every lyric on screen (seriously...’Crossroads’ could be the most challenging song to sing along to ever) as you dance the night away with strangers and friends alike.’Yo man, let's get out of here. Word to your mother.’”—Greg MacLennan via Drafthouse.com
Skinemax: Night Eyes
Alamo Ritz 10:10pm
“Many people may take a jaded eye towards taboo content in movies these days. Not us. We still get excited any time boobs appear on screen. The appeal is timeless. And what better cinematic showcase has there ever been for the human anatomy than the late-night erotic thriller? Join us for the SKINEMAX our tribute to that gratuitous era when erotic encounters happened exclusively under neon lights to the sounds of smooth jazz. Get sucked into a world of forbidden passions, sexual betrayals and the unending tribulations of menaced talk-radio hosts. This month we screen Night Eyes, the sultry and dangerous tale of a security guard (Andrew Stevens) who is hired to spy on a rock star's wife (Tanya Roberts) but ends up becoming embroiled in her adulterous web. Come recapture that magical feeling of staying up late, trying to watch scrambled sex films off cable or renting a video tape just because the box featured a semi-nude picture of a pretty lady.”—Drafthouse.com
Friday March 23
Master Pancake: Back to the Future
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:00pm; 10:00pm
“Master Pancake lampoons Back to the Future (1985), a film so iconic that for a brief period in the mid-80’s it convinced people that De Loreans, down vests, and Huey Lewis were cool. Michael J. Fox (Family Ties, Teen Wolf) stars as Michael J. Fox -- or Marty McFly as he’s called here -- who travels back in time in order to save his professorial pal ‘Doc’, played by Christopher Lloyd (Taxi,Star Trek III). Along the way, McFox ends up inventing rock‘n’roll, changing history, and almost dating his own mom. You’ll have 1.21 jigowatts of fun at this Oedipally complex movie, as Master Pancake riffs on BACK TO THE FUTURE!”—Master Pancake’s John Erler via Drafthouse.com
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Dinner
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
“A sweet sendup to the bygone era of naturalist heroes like Jacques Costeau, as well as an absurd and surprisingly touching study in human imperfection, The Life Aquatic is possibly one of director Wes Anderson's most ambitious offerings. Of course, it's also loaded with his signature off-beat charm and boasts a killer soundtrack. There is really nothing not to love about this movie. For this special screening we're offering you the chance to LIVE the life aquatic just like a member of the ragtag Belefonte crew with fish and chips and your very own Team Zissou- issue red knit cap (sorry, speedos and correspondence stock not included).”—Drafthouse.com
Celebrity Guests: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Dinner Party w/Edgar Wright
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:15pm
“Director Edgar Wright will be in attendance for this one time only magical event AND your ticket will include a 3-course Scott Pilgrim inspired menu by Alamo Chef John Bullington. Scott Pilgrim's life is so awesome. He's 23 years-old, in a rock band, "between jobs," and dating a cute high school girl. Everything's fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn't covered in rose petals. Ramona's seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness. From the ever-changing tint of Ramona’s candy-colored locks to the unmatched video game graphics, Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a ton of fun to watch.”—Drafthouse.com
Action Pack: Demolition Man
Alamo Ritz 10:30pm
“Simon Phoenix is an old fashioned criminal. We need an old fashioned cop....we need JOHN SPARTAN! Incarcerated in ice in the year 1996 for a crime he didn't commit, testosterone packed John Spartan has been thawed out and reborn into a crime-free society being terrorized by his oldest nemesis: Simon Phoenix, the multi-murder-death-killer. As Phoenix continues on his murderous rampage in what could be a political conspiracy, Spartan will be in hot in pursuit as he battles not only the greatest villain of his time...but the social norms of a future he doesn't know and a mysterious arrangement of seashells. When Demolition Man came out in 1993, the world stopped and celebrated an all-star cast at the top of its game that included Sandra Bullock, Wesley Snipes, Sylvester Stallone, Dennis Leary and Benjamin Bratt. And now, almost twenty years later, the Action Pack is celebrating what has matured into one of the finest pieces of action cinema of all time with an all-out-pyrotechnics-in-the-theater-gun-caps-a-blazin' theatrical party. If you've never seen Demonlition Man before, this is the way you HAVE to see it. (And seriously..HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN Demolition Man!?) And if you love Demoliton Man half as much as we do, then you know this is the screening you cannot afford to miss. "You're gonna regret this the rest of your life... both seconds of it.’”—Greg MacLennan via Drafthouse.com
Celebrity Guests: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World w/Edgar Wright
Alamo Slaughter Lane 10:40pm
The Late Show: Eraserhead
Alamo Ritz 11:30pm
“The quintessential midnight movie. I mean, Jack Nance as Henry Spencer with his crazy eyes and frizzed up, backlit pile of hair has been the poster child for cult movies for decades. Then there's the lady in the radiator signing ‘In Heaven.’ Oh, and then there's The Baby. Dear god, THE BABY!! Horror film? Hallucinatory satire? Gross out-based mind f***? A ‘dream of dark and troubling things,’ as David Lynch has described it? It's any and all of the above and the very reason why the tradition of ‘midnight movies’ exists. It's a near religious experience for some, and certainly a 101-level rite of passage for any and all lovers of cult cinema.”—Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: If there is one celebrity who truly, and unabashedly loves the
Alamo Drafthouse, it’s Edgar Wright. The guy comes here even when he has nothing new to promote, like now, just out of sheer adoration of the theater. If you’re at all able, you’re going to want to attend at least one of his special events.
Saturday March 24
TV at the Alamo: Doctor Who: The Three Doctors
Alamo Slaughter Lane 1:00pm
“This utterly indispensable classic Doctor Who arc has just been given the remaster treatment and we're giving you the chance see it on the big screen! Here's the deal: The Time Lords are in crisis. A powerful force is draining their energy into a mysterious Black Hole, and they must recruit the Doctor to save them. But when the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) gets targeted by this force, they realize that one Doctor just isn’t enough for this mission -- they’ll need the help of the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) as well. All three of the Doctor’s incarnations, aided by Jo Grant and UNIT, must face the wrath of Omega – a fallen Time Lord trapped in a universe of anti-matter, with one thing on his mind: revenge. Cue the theme music: Dooo weeee oohhhh!!!”—Drafthouse.com
Broadway Brunch: My Fair Lady
Alamo Ritz (3/25) 1:30pm
“The science behind our newest series is founded on two simple truths: 1. Brunch makes us happy. 2. Musicals make us happy. From there, it didn’t take a complex formula for us to figure out that we should combine them into Broadway Brunch, the greatest addition to mornings since the invention of the mimosa. And we’re launching the series with one of our favorite musicals of all time, My Fair Lady. Winner of eight Academy Awards, the film stars the incandescent Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle and the debonair Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins, the professor who tries to teach her to speak like a lady. Join us for an early afternoon of delightful songs, tasty brunch food and a little rain in Spain. Even if you danced all night, we guarantee that Broadway Brunch will leave you feeling absolutely loverly.”—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
Afternoon Tea: Sense and Sensibility
Alamo Slaughter Lane 4:00pm
“You might think we created our new Afternoon Tea series just to have an excuse to nibble on delicious British baked goods. Or you might think we started it as a reason to watch period films with gorgeous costumes and classy British accents. Well, congrats, smarty pants, because you’re correct on both counts! We’re excited to launch Afternoon Tea at Alamo Slaughter Lane with the Austen classic Sense & Sensibility, featuring luminous performances by Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet set against the beautiful English countryside. The Academy Award-winning screenplay highlights the thrilling (but always polite!) drama and heartbreak of Jane Austen’s novel, complete with secret engagements, scoundrels and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. Feel as elegant and refined as the Dashwood sisters while you sip on tea, and swoon with a scone over the adorable Hugh Grant and exceedingly dashing Alan Rickman. Whether your inheritance is £5000 or £500 a year, everyone is invited to this delightful and delectable afternoon!”—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
Big Screen Classics: Harold and Maude
Alamo Ritz (thru 3/27) Check Daily Times
“Black comedies don't come much blacker than this cult favorite from 1972, and they don't come much funnier, either. It seemed that director Hal Ashby was the perfect choice to mine a mother lode of eccentricity from the original script by Colin Higgins, about the unlikely romance between a death-obsessed 19-year-old named Harold (Bud Cort) and a life-loving 79-year-old widow named Maude (Ruth Gordon). They meet at a funeral, and Maude finds something oddly appealing about Harold, urging him to ‘reach out’ and grab life by the lapels as opposed to dwelling morbidly on mortality. Harold grows fond of the old gal--she's a lot more fun than the girls his mother desperately matches him up with--and together they make Harold and Maude, one of the sweetest and most unconventional love stories ever made.”—Drafthouse.com
Celebrity Guests: Shaun of the Dead Quote-Along with Edgar Wright
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:00pm
“Featuring free inflatable cricket bats to whack your neighbor’s brains out with and for this one screening only director Edgar Wright will be there in the flesh! You can quote along with all of your favorite British-accented zombie fighters as The Action Pack presents the SHAUN OF THE DEAD QUOTE-ALONG. We’ll have all of our favorite lines subtitled karaoke-style so that they pop up on the screen in white seconds before the character says the line, then highlights in yellow along with the dialog so we can all yell out, “She’s so DRUNK!” when Shaun and Ed first discover the zombie in their backyard. PLUS! We’ve ordered a full crate of inflatable cricket bats from England so that every time Shaun whacks a zombie to make a break for it, you can live out that excitement in the theater. Whack the person next to you and get whacked right back. Use your brains! Your delicious, scrumptious brains...”—Henri Mazza via Drafthouse.com
Master Pancake: Back to the Future
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm; 10:00pm
Ladies of the 80s Sing-Along
Alamo Slaughter Lane 10:00pm
“The LADIES OF THE '80s SING-ALONG has been one of the Action Pack's most popular shows for years now, and this year we've got all of the favorites back, with a few choice new selections that haven't been featured in any Sing-Along before. So we'll have the 99 red balloons bouncing around in the theater during the song that shares a name with the props we use, and we'll have naked men falling from the balconies when the Weather Girls talk about the day when it first started raining men. But don't be surprised when you hear from Berlin or Blondie. Forever is gonna start tonight and don't ya wanna dance with somebody? (...with somebody who loves me! WOO!)”—Greg MacLennan & Henri Mazza via Drafthouse.com
Big Screen Classics: Blue Velvet 25th Anniversary w/PBR
“Frank Booth, the coolest person ever to grace a movie screen, had a lot of things going for him. He was a criminal. He was played by legendary madman Dennis Hopper. He really knew how to make love (here’s a tip: it involves gas masks and violent dry-humping). And he didn’t drink Heineken; the only thing that touched his lips (aside from poorly applied lipstick) was PABST BLUE RIBBON. In honor of the 25th anniversary of Blue Velvet, we’re bringing back one of our favorite film and drink pairings, where we show the classic David Lynch film and the PBR is abundant.”—Drafthouse.com
Celebrity Guests: Hot Fuzz w/Edgar Wright
Alamo Slaughter Lane 10:10pm
“Edgar Wright and company do to action cinema what they did to horror... they walk the cleverest of lines between homage, parody and outright bad ass awesome. And if you're familiar at all with The Action Pack, you know we LOVE bad ass awesome. So we're preparing ourselves for an evening of fun, guns and a whole lot of Alamo style pre-show fun. And if that's not enough for you, we've invited Mr. Edgar Wright himself to grace us with his presence and watch his send up to action cinema over a couple of beers. So what are you waiting for? ‘BRING THE NOISE!’”—Greg MacLennan via Drafthouse.com
Thrill to all the cheap laughs, cheap women, and cheap production values of one of the world’s premier bad movies. Watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show in-and-of-itself is an event, but it takes on a whole new life when witnessed within the walls of The Alamo Village with loads of audience participation, dressed-up patrons, and general wickedness that has become a vital component to the film’s meteoritic rise to cult film legend.
Sunday March 25
Food & Film: Lord of the Rings Trilogy Hobbit Feast
Alamo Slaughter Lane 10:00am
“For those who've never heard of this life-changing quest and/or don't know a hobbit from a hobo, well, here's the deal: At the LotR HOBBIT TRILOGY FEAST, we snuggle up together in the theater and brave our way through the ENTIRE extended-cut versions of the LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY -- nearly 12 hours -- all while devouring food and imbibing drink inspired by Tolkien's Middle Earth! Each of the seven courses is served during Hobbit meal times (which is pretty much ALL the time)! When we reach the end and the King (spoiler alert!) ascends to his rightful throne, you too will be ready to return to the Shire and be greeted as a hero by your loved ones who didn't think you would make it all the way...and then pass out in a blissful food- and film-induced coma.”—Drafthouse.com
Funny Ha Ha 10th Anniversary
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
“10 years ago, Andrew Bujalski made an excellent, very inexpensive film in a style that adapted John Cassavetes’ techniques and took advantage of its own technical limitations. The critical praise was enormous and the influence was wide. Before long it was a movement - mumblecore. Like most artistic movements, it encompasses many fine works and provides impervious cover for many bad ones. But the one that started it all deserves to be appreciated on its own considerable merits without having to drag mumblecore around with it like some horrendous tail. We are honored to welcome the writer, director and star of Funny Ha Ha, Andrew Bujalski back to the Alamo to present his film and reflect on his own memories of making the film as it exists today, both as a freestanding work and as an influence on the work that followed.”—Drafthouse.com
Action Pack: Demolition Man
Alamo Lake Creek 7:00pm
TV at the Alamo: AMC’s Mad Men
Alamo Lake Creek 9:30pm; Alamo Slaughter Lane & Ritz 10:00pm
“We've been hooked on AMC's award-winning drama from the opening beats of the opening credits of the very first episode, and we've never looked back. The '60s style, the talk about marketing in a time when advertising was really just coming into its own, and of course Don Draper himself just keep everyone coming back for more and more. Of course, for us it's the fantasy world of drinking and smoking and taking naps in the morning, then going for a martini and oyster lunch, then smacking around Pete Campbell and calling it a workday that makes the world of Don Draper such an enticing one. For this season of Mad Men, we'll be showing two episodes back to back, the first will be the previous weeks episode, and the second will be the new episode. Then we'll skip all the commercials and delight in Draper's wit and debauchery.”—Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: The Alamo feasts may seem a bit pricey, but none will give you the economical, as well as sensory, satisfaction like The Lord of the Rings feast. In addition to three epic films, you’ll be getting a seven-course meal! Let me tell you, nobody knows how to eat like a hobbit.

Cinema Cocktails: From Russia with Love
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:00pm
“One of the coolest things about our new Slaughter Lane location is that we can watch the latest state-of-the art digital restorations of classic movies while enjoying a wider assortment of adult beverages. We're not going to tell you what to order when you sit down to watch this all-time favorite Bond film, but we'll definitely have a Russian vodka martini, shaken and not stirred as we watch Sean Connery outsmart S.P.E.C.T.R.E and romance Soviet beauty Tatiana Romanova in one of the most exciting Bonds ever. Superior entertainment and superior spirits. This is living.”—Drafthouse.com
Master Pancake Mystery Preview
Alamo Village 7:00pm
“We can't tell you what movie we'll be mocking. And we won't be finished writing it. But for the ridiculous price of $3, how can you resist? Here's what we can tell you: we'll be mocking a movie that we're working on for our upcoming schedule. We've written a lot of jokes for it, but we haven't written them all. And we want you to help us figure out what works, what doesn't, and maybe inspire us to come up with some new ones. You'll get to see a Master Pancake show for cheap, before anybody else gets to. So what if it's not finished yet? This is sure to be a fun time.”—Drafthouse.com
Music Monday: Who Took The Bomp? Le Tigre On Tour
Alamo Ritz 10:30pm
“Follow iconic feminist electronic band Le Tigre on their 2004-2005 international tour across four continents and through ten countries. Supported by a community of devoted fans and led by outspoken Riot Grrrl pioneer Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill), Le Tigre confronts sexism and homophobia in the music industry while tearing up the stage via performance art poetics, no-holds-barred lyrics, punk rock ethos, and whip-smart wit in this edgy and entertaining documentary. Directed by Kerthy Fix (Strange Powers:Stephin Merrittand The Magnetic Fields), Who Took the Bomp? Le Tigre On Tour features never before seen live performances, archival interviews, and revealing backstage footage with these trail-blazing artists.”—Drafthouse.com
If you love the Cohen Brothers’ tribute to shiftless losers with mad bowling skills and penchants for Creedence Clearwater Revival, this is the place to be. All your favorite one-liners from The Dude will flash across the screen to prompt your collective vocal worship of this masterful comedy.
The Thing (1982)
Alamo Slaughter Lane 10:00pm
“John Carpenter's brain-blasting masterpiece of shape-shifting horror returns to the big screen to erase all pretenders to its throne! Though technically a remake of the '50s classic The Thing From Another World, it's an entirely different kind of film. The story follows a group of researchers at an Antarctic base who accidentally unleash a frozen alien force that can occupy the bodies of living creatures. The constantly metamorphosising creature is displayed very, very graphically, thanks to the work of practical effects genius Rob Bottin. It's a visceral horror movie that punches you in the face with gross-out gore effects and then knees you in the groin with pinpoint suspense timing. Kurt Russell is at his badass best as Mac McReady, a Vietnam vet with a shady past who is mankind's last hope against the invader. Could this be the best scifi and/or horror movie of the ‘80s? Yes. Yes it is.”—Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: If you haven’t seen a classic James Bond movie on the big screen, and no Goldeneye does not count, this week’s digital restoration presentation of From Russia with Love is a can’t-miss situation. Have a martini for me!

Girlie Night: Dirty Dancing
Alamo Slaughter Lane 7:00pm
“When Dirty Dancing came out in 1987, it changed my life. As I breathlessly watched Baby and Johnny stun the country club set to the soaring notes of ‘Time of Your Life,’ I realized that dance had the power to change things! Dance could overcome social and racial barriers; it could break down prejudice; it could even transform a really annoying person like Baby into someone awesome! Thanks to Dirty Dancing, I came to understand the power of dance, and consequently discovered my favorite genre of film: the dance movie. Baby and Johnny paved the way for future silver screen amalgamations of love on the dance floor; in other words, without Dirty Dancing, there would be no Step Up 2: The Streets (a horrifying thought, I know). With such a monumental legacy, Dirty Dancing deserves our utmost respect, as well as a high amount of romantic mega-sighs. Obviously, there's no better place to celebrate it than Girlie Night, where chair dancing is encouraged and absolutely no one will be put in the corner.”—Drafthouse.com
AFS Essential Cinema: Carmel
Alamo South Lamar 7:00pm
“From Israel's most important filmaker, Carmel is Amos Gitai's (Kadosh, Kippur) deeply personal and resonant meditation on Jewish and Israeli identity. Using both fiction and documentary techniques, Gitai links his family history to ancient history. Through exquisitely composed long takes, he re-enacts the Jewish-Roman wars that began in 66 A.D., and contrasts them to the young soldiers enlisting in Israel's army today, including his own son, making the film ‘a passionate expression of Mr. Gitai's anguish at living in a country in a continual state of war"’(NY Times). The cycles of violence are never-ending, but so are the bonds of family. Gitai's wife Rivka reads letters from his mother, linking generations of Jews and Israelis within the warm embrace of memory.”—Drafthouse.com
Terror Tuesday: Shakma
Alamo Ritz 10:00pm
“NOT AVAILABLE ON DVD! I’ll go ahead and tell you the plot but that doesn’t mean you’re gonna accept it: A group of college students lock themselves in a medical facility to play an all-night walkie-talkie version of Dungeons & Dragons. Unbeknownst to them, an experimental biologist (played by the great Roddy McDowall) has chosen this very same night to inject a baboon with a serum that makes it go violently maximum insane. The building quickly transforms into a one-‘boon slaughterhouse, as the role-playing goonwads are systematically disemboweled by the most spastically pissed-off primate to ever beat its face against a ruptured torso. The producers must have knit a really big blindfold to wrap around every single member of the ASPCA, as Shakma slams and claws and shrieks like Louie Anderson at a pizza sale. Any major studio horror production would find a way to simulate a rabid baboon on a rampage, but this no-budget fatalityfest uses the REAL DEAL. Truly, genuinely terrifying.”—Zack Carlson via Drafthouse.com
Action Pack: Commando
Alamo Slaughter Lane 10:00pm
“If there’s a mission that no man could survive... then John Matrix is the man for the job. The retired elite commando is enjoying his time off with his daughter in the mountains of northern KahLeeFornia when he catches wind that someone is killing of all of his former squad mates. When a supposedly dead, former elite, dishonorably discharged commando partner, Bennett, kidnaps Matrix’s daughter in an attempt to blackmail him into one last job--to overthrow a democracy and reinstate a Marxist dictator--John Matrix’s response is shooting Bennett’s henchman and chasing him down. Somewhere... somehow... someone’s going to pay. What soon follows is a barrage of non stop gun fights, fisticuffs, and explosions. We’ll be emptying our bag of Action Pack tricks for these screenings, complete with live explosions in the theater, subtitles so we can all quote-along with the best lines, cap guns and other props to shoot-along with Arnold, and you can be DAMN sure we’ll let off some steam at the end of the flick”—Greg MacLennan via Drafthouse.com

Chemistry 101: To Catch a Thief
Alamo Village 7:00pm
“Movies and love are hopelessly intertwined for most of us. While the truest love we know is found in real life, it's fleeting and subject to the inconveniences of daily living. Not so in the best romantic movies. There is no laundry, no babysitter, no mortgage; only beautiful people saying beautiful things in beautiful settings. And even among those romantic movies there are the really special ones, the ones where we feel a real spark between the performers. We call that spark ‘chemistry.’ Chemistry 101 is a new ongoing series of classic couple movies. This time we have a great one: Cary Grant plays a retired jewel thief who woos rich debutante Grace Kelly in the south of France. Is he after her jewels? Does he have a dark secret? We'll let director Alfred Hitchcock dish out the plot points. This is a superior Hollywood romance starring the most charming leading man in movie history and a gorgeous, real life Princess.”—Drafthouse.com

Girlie Night: Bring it On
Alamo Village 7:00pm
“I'll be the first to admit that when I was in high school, I thought cheerleaders were kinda lame. I mean, the big hair, the short skirts, the pom poms... what was the point?! But then I saw Bring It On, and suddenly, I totally wanted to be a cheerleader. I wanted to shellac my head with hairspray and perform crazy flips in the air and compete at Nationals and shout ‘Brr! It’s cold in here! There must be some Toros in the atmosphere!’ and flirt with a boy just by brushing my teeth because cheerleaders can do all of those things! At least, they can when they’re played by a chipper Kirsten Dunst, a badass Eliza Dushku (I still think of her as Faith) and a fierce Gabrielle Union. Throw in the adorable guitar soloist Jesse Bradford, and I’m ready to pack up for cheerleader camp. While it might be hard for some people to believe in the awesomeness of Bring It On, we know the truth here at Girlie Night, and we’re going to 2-4-6-8 appreciate it! So start warming up your spirit fingers, because it’s going to be a totally cheertastic evening. (And we’ll make sure that no one drops the spirit stick.)”—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com

Horror Remix: Spring
Alamo Lake Creek 10:00pm
“Metaphorically, the holiday slasher is generally consistent with the importance of that particular holiday. The bigger the holiday, the better the slasher. Upon initial release the spring slashers were widely regarded as pale imitations of Black Christmas, Halloween and My Bloody Valentine. While this is 100% true, Graduation Day, Memorial Valley Massacre and Slaughter High have a place in this world. Nothing groundbreaking here. Just satisfying little slashers that go down easy with beer! Bring your friends and GET THERE EARLY! And don’t forget, lots of fun extras, shorts and your puppet MCs, Cheesecake and Thunderclap.”—Drafthouse.com
Weird Wednesday: The Libertine
Alamo Ritz 10:45pm
“Hollywood movies have always had the biggest budgets, the most well known stars, the most proficient technicians etc. But one thing the American film industry has never been able to figure out is how to make good sex movies. In the ‘60s and ‘70s European filmmakers turned out sex movie after sex movie, some of them classics, most not, but on the whole pretty hot stuff. This movie is fairly goofy in some ways but it carries a charge where it counts, just below waist level. It’s the story of a young widow (Eurosex goddess Catherine Spaak) who discovers that her sainted late husband had kept a specially outfitted apartment for his extramarital frolics. And what an apartment! Mirrors on every wall, secret cameras, built-in bondage playscape. She’s shocked, but intrigued. Thus begins a delirious sexual odyssey. She indulges her every desire until she finally finds the one man who can satisfy her weirdest, most desperate need. You won’t believe it. Originally distributed by Radley Metzger’s Audubon Films. Music by Armando Trovajoli.”—Lars Nilsen via Drafthouse.com
“Spring is here and it is a great time to enjoy the great outdoors and watch a movie. Food & Film: The Darjeeling Limited Avery Beer Dinner
3/22 7:00pm
“Join us as we celebrate brotherhood, the Kinks, train travel, the pain of life, Indian food and of course CRAFT BEER with this special presentation of The Darjeeling Limited. Filmmaker Wes Anderson has a knack for poignantly exploring the quirkiness of his characters while simultaneously revealing glimpses into the human condition- oh, also his soundtracks are always pretty groovy. Darjeeling is no exception. Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson star as three guys who have unique enough schnozzes to play believable brothers on a spiritual journey across India to cope with the emotional baggage left behind by their recently deceased father. We’ve worked closely with our friends at Avery Brewing Company to pair their superb beers with a gourmet Indian inspired menu to complement the film perfectly. The witty jokes and the breathtaking scenery are going to match impeccably with the Avery portfolio of distinctive brews and the mouthwatering gourmet menu.”—Drafthouse.com
Zzang!!!: Big Trouble in Little China
3/22 10:00pm
“One of a string of amazing Carpenter films starring Kurt Russell, the film tells the story of All American trucker Jack Burton (Russell) who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle below San Francisco's Chinatown. Not convinced? Did we mention that the movie co-stars a 30-year-old, pre-Sex and the City Kim Cattrall? “After an encounter with a UFO, Roy Neary's mind is laden with visions and alien music. As more strange events occur in the area, it seems something big is about to happen. Neary is one of many people in the area who begin to be obsessed with a certain location in the desert and to his friends, family, and neighbors, seems to be quickly losing his mind. As his obsession costs him his job and contact with his loved ones, he meets others with similar experiences, and together, they are determined to find out the truth about human and alien contact. This classic alien encounter tale from Steven Spielberg features not only Richard Dreyfuss (JAWS), but also the most iconic five musical notes related UFOs in all of cinema.”—Drafthouse.com
“At Girlie Night, we’re obviously huge fans of strong, dynamic heroines. And I’m pretty sure that no one has ever been as elegantly badass as Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth, which is why it’s the perfect film to continue our Afternoon Tea series. This movie is packed with the classiest actors in the biz, from Geoffrey Rush to Richard Attenborough, and Joseph Fiennes handsomely performs his swoon-inducing duty. But of course, it’s really all about Cate Blanchett. She defies societal convention, fights against power-hungry noblemen, launches military battles and still manages to look completely gorgeous the entire time. At Afternoon Tea, we’ll crown her the queen of our hearts while sipping on tea as beautifully complex as the costumes and snacking on treats as delicious as the intrigue!”—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
