The Alamo Drafthouse has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the greatest movie theaters in the history of mankind…or at least the history of movie theaters. With their signature events, ample food and drink selection, and strict no-talking policy, they make obsolete all tawdry multiplexes and completely redefine the movie-going experience. Here’s what they’re up to this week!
"Come on people – do I really need to say anything more than that to convince you that this LABYRINTH SING & QUOTE-ALONG is not to be missed, no matter what the goblins tell you they’re going to do to your little brother? David Bowie, Jim Henson, and Jennifer Connely created an unsurpassed work of young adult cinema in the 1980s, and somehow it’s never been properly celebrated until now. We’ll have subtitles on the screen for all of our favorite lines and every single song, so the whole crowd can yell them all out in unison. We’ll also have an assortment of goodies in your prop bag, including bubbles to transport us to the magical land of Sarah’s dreamy ball, balloons to pop around the theater while we sing the fireys’ song, and best of all – Whoopee Cushions to fart along with the Bog of Eternal Stench. Smells bad!! Suffice to say, if you miss this show, you most definitely have no power over me. YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME!"—Henri Mazza via Drafthouse.com
"Typically The Action Pack likes to stick pretty close to our Michael Bay and AHNULD Schwarzenegger roots but we just love this movie too much to not want to try and recreate our own shoot-out at the OK Corral with an all out shoot-along screening of Tombstone, where everyone is being handed a 6-shooter and a ton of caps to gun fight along with every bad ass moment on the screen. So come on, why wouldn't you wanna see the most star-studded cast of roguish outlaws and strapping law men duking it out in one of the most famous showdowns in gunfight history?"—Drafthouse.com
Celebrity Guests: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Presents: Jurassic Park
Alamo Rtiz 7:20pm
"The Alamo is pleased to welcome the two Detroit lads behind the trippy electronic indie pop group Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. as they present their favorite movie of all time Jurassic Park! We love bringing artists we dig to the Alamo to showcase movies that are significant to them and we were pleasantly surprised that Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr’s favorite flick just so happens to feature awe-inspiring Spielberg goodness!"—Drafthouse.com
"Join the cast and crew of Rooster Teeth Productions as they premiere the completed 9th season of Red vs. Blue. RED vs. BLUE is back! In season 9 we're taken through two different stories. One of them follows Epsilon Al's memories of Blood Gulch, and the other is a prequel circling Project Freelancer in its glory days. This time around, action sequences are allowed outside of the maps provided in HALO: REACH."—Drafthouse.com
YE-Z In Love Sing-Along
Alamo Rtiz 9:45pm
"Jay-Z and Beyonce married and created a harmonious union of love and incredible music. And when they're not collaborating on a track they're collaborating in the sack as they await the 9-month bundle that will no doubt be a super human of musicality. Jay may be married to Beyonce but he has been bromancing all over the world and going H.A.M. with his boy Kanye. And with that we bring you Ye-Z in Love: The Beyonce/Jay-Z/Kanye West Sing-Along where we jam all our favorites music videos from each artist and as many collaborations into two hours as we possibly can. As always, we will have ALL of the lyrics up on the screen for you to sing-along to, light up rings, and so much more! Slap on some shudder shades and grab a bottle of champagne, but I don't think anything can get you ready for this jelly."—Greg MacLennan via Drafthouse.com
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: The Red vs. Blue comedy series is always a big draw especially for fans of first-person shooter videogames like Halo. The fact that this internet sensation is produced right here in Austin gives and extra measure of excitement to the Alamo showcase of Season 9.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory w/Cast!
Alamo Ritz 7:30pm
"Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka. PERIOD. No amount of remaking, re-imagining, or rebooting will ever top the playfully haunting performance of one of the world's greatest actors. Seriously, this movie never stops being amazing. When you were a kid, it was all about how awesome it would be if you could eat a gummy bear the size of your face or drink from a river made of chocolate. Now that you're older, you can get nostalgic about that stuff while also seeing all the creepy shining through the cracks of this fantastically fun movie musical. Well, The Action Pack is pulling out all the stops with this special one-night only return to the world of pure imagination. The biggest stop of all: the actual kids of this fantastical movie joining us live on stage before the show. Seriously! Veruca Salt! Violet Beauregarde! Charlie Bucket! and Mike Teevee! All together and all grown up! What are you waiting for? Just sign the contract at the bottom line… er, buy your tickets now!"—Drafthouse.com
This Is Spinal Tap Sing-Along
Alamo Ritz 9:00pm
"This Is Spinal Tap shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs, gold albums, name changes and undersold concert dates, along with the full host of requisite groupies, promoters, hangers-on and historians, sessions, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real."—Drafthouse.com

The Late Show: Jurassic Park
Alamo Ritz (thru 11/12) 11:30pm
"A month ago, Mondo screened Jurassic Park as their second Monday Mystery Movie to a sold out crowd. Now we're bringing back the film as a part of our Late Show series! The greatest reason why this film is still adored by fans 18 years after its release is not only because Jeff Goldblum is in it (that's a selling point for any movie), but because its mix of animatronics and CGI still holds up today - even against those uninteresting blue creatures James Cameron spent half a billion dollars on. The Late Show series' ambition is to trigger nostalgia, and as you already know Jurassic Park is a roaring response. Hold on to your butts!"—Chase Whale via Drafthouse.com

Thrill to all the cheap laughs, cheap women, and cheap production values of one of the world’s premier bad movies. Watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show in-and-of-itself is an event, but it takes on a whole new life when witnessed within the walls of The Alamo Village with loads of audience participation, dressed-up patrons, and general wickedness that has become a vital component to the film’s meteoritic rise to cult film legend.
Alamo Survivor’s Tip: If you love great film scores, I highly recommend the McCallum Movie Music In The Park event. Not only do you get to let the spectacular sounds of your favorite film scores fill the crisp night air, but also a screening of Back to the Future as well. Sounds like a perfect evening to me.

Zzang!!!: Howard The Duck
Alamo Rtiz 7:00pm
"BRAND NEW 35MM PRINT! Howard the Duck burst into two-dimensional existence in 1973 and became an unlikely star of the Marvel Comics universe, gaining such a mighty following that the fowl-mouthed freak was somehow entered into the real-life 1976 presidential campaign. A decade later, Hollywood inexplicably pumped tens of millions of dollars into a big budget blockbuster that ended up not busting many blocks, but has since built a tremendous fan base. With the recent passing of longtime comics legend (and Howard the Duck artist) Gene Colan, we pay 35mm tribute to one of history’s finest waterfowl. Admittedly, Colan hated this George Lucas-produced, big budget, effects-laden barnstormer...but hey, so did the critics! We don't care! Howard's the best damn talking duck in the annals of cinema and we're proud to salute the man who gave him life. 'Waaauuugghhh!'"—Drafthouse.com
TV at the Alamo: AMC’s The Walking Dead
Alamo South Lamar 9:30; Lake Creek 9:00pm
"Season One of The Walking Dead established the series as yet another top-notch program from AMC right along with Breaking Bad and that other one with Christina Hendricks. The show has already taken huge U-Turns from the plot of the graphic novels and proved that it is capable of making its own compelling and exciting character-driven storylines, so the anticipation of season 2’s upcoming 13 episodes is huge. Where will they go next?! Come watch it with your fellow zombie fans in the fortified safety of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema."—John Gross via Drafthouse.com

Here's what we can tell you: we'll be mocking a movie that we're working on for our upcoming schedule. We've written a lot of jokes for it, but we haven't written them all. And we want you to help us figure out what works, what doesn't, and maybe inspire us to come up with some new ones. You'll get to see a Master Pancake show for cheap, before anybody else gets to. Music Monday: Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone
Alamo Ritz 10:00pm
"Too many behind-the-scenes music docs follow the rise and fall of ‘Band X’ with usual references to drugs, booze, one-night stands, and bickering, but the story of Fishbone is far more interesting and completely unique. One of the major SoCal live bands of the 80s, Fishbone intriguingly combined punk, metal, funk, ska, and jazz and got a record contract. But no music executive quite knew how to categorize a group of Black musicians who seemed able to play every style. Marketing Fishbone became a commercial nightmare. Even though the band members, especially Angelo Moore and Kendall Jones, had been best friends since being bused from South Central L.A. to public schools in ‘the Valley,’ the band eventually imploded because of the influence of a cult on Kendall and excessive playing of the Theremin by Angelo. With animation, live performances, interviews with well-known fans, and ‘then and now’ footage of the band and its members, the filmmakers have fashioned a fascinating study of a band that should have been mega-big. There is still time."—Austin Film Society via Drafthouse.com

Girlie Night: When Harry Met Sally
Alamo Ritz 7:00pm
"For me, the real question of When Harry Met Sally isn't ‘Will sex ruin a friendship?’ The big question is actually, ‘Why can't this movie be my life?’ Sure, it takes Sally an hour and a half to order a sandwich, and Harry is a bit of a talker, but together, these two share one of the greatest love stories in cinematic history. The witty banter! The New York autumn! The classy Harry Connick Jr. soundtrack! Don't even get me started on the old couples talking about how they first met, because even after a hundred viewings, I still tear up over ‘nine extra floors.’ This Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron masterpiece takes romance to the next, hilarious level, and we'll celebrate (and envy) it at Girlie Night. Pull on your days of the week underpants, add some pepper to your paprikash and let's all have what she's having!"—Sarah Pitre via Drafthouse.com
Food & Film: The Meaning of Life Beer Dinner
Alamo Lake Creek 7:00pm
"Stop questioning your own existence and let six of the funniest men EVER guide you through life’s most complex issues. Birth, fate, dreams, war, sex, speech, illness, death; Monty Python explain them all in the film while we explain to you the gourmet food and craft beer pairings placed in front of you. Yes, chow down on a feast prepared to tie-in perfectly with an array of specialty brews as well as to match with the hilarious sketches and songs that send up religion, chimney babies, organ transplants and even talking goldfish."—John Gross via Drafthouse.com
AFS Essential Cinema: Wittgenstein
Alamo South Lamar 7:00pm
"Derek Jarman turns his superbly expressionistic lens toward the life, real and imagined, of 20th century powerhouse of philosophy, Ludwig Wittgenstein. Devoting a film to a genius who examined the “nature and limits of language” is a rather audacious undertaking, but Jarman was never deterred by any kind of limits himself. He sketches Wittgenstein’s life from his birth in Vienna, on through events during World War II, to his settling down at Cambridge, as a provocative professor and friend to philosopher Bertrand Russell and economist John Maynard Keynes. A love of Carmen Miranda’s flamboyant musicals certainly gives an idea of his inclinations, but other than a creative relationship with a man who was killed during World War I and a later love affair, Wittgenstein was generally frustrated in love. As if to balance the profligacy of Caravaggio as a subject, Jarman seems to have no less enjoyed exploring the life of a quieter man. Wittgenstein will be accompanied by Derek Jarman’s autobiographical documentary, Glitterbug."—Drafthouse.com
Terror Tuesday: I Drink Your Blood
Alamo Ritz 9:45pm
"This Satan-fueled anti-hippie railroader remains one of the most potent in horror history, and was the crowning achievement of sometimes-gay-porn-director David Durston. A small northeast town is invaded by a vanload of long-haired no-rules cultists, who immediately begin to terrorize and drugulate everyone within reach. Pushed to their limits, the defenseless citizens do what anyone would do in this situation: feed the subhuman enemies a big serving tray full of rabies-injected meat pies. Works like a charm, except now the town is overrun by RABID Satanic hippies. Boi-yoi-yoiiiinnnggg!!! Learn shocking new truths about the Dark Arts: “Let it be known, sons and daughters, that Satan was an acid head!” He’s not the only one…you’ll even see an innocent grandpa get forcibly pumped full of LSD! All this plus cannibalism, decapitation and hydrophobic humpery."—Zack Carlson via Drafthouse.com

AFS Doc Night: Nostalgia For The Light
Alamo South Lamar 7:00pm
"This inspiringly filmed documentary, set in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, observes three groups of people, all focused on the past: astronomers, peering into the skies to see the light from stars billions of light-years away; archaeologists looking at the pre-Columbian arts and remains of early inhabitants of the desert; and the most tragic, women looking for the remains of their relatives tortured, killed, and discarded by the Pinochet dictatorship. The past: cosmic, pre-historic, and recent – all interwoven into an arid, barren land slowly giving up moments of awe, knowledge, and tragedy. The Chilean filmmaker has made nineteen documentaries, nearly all of which examine aspects of his country’s complex and only recently tortured history in the late 20th century. Before Nostalgia De La Luz, Guzmán was best known for his 3-part documentary La Batalla De Chile, a study of the Allende years. Best Documentary at the 2010 European Film Academy Awards and the 2011 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. Spanish with English subtitles."—Drafthouse.com

Horror Remix: Thanksgiving
Alamo Lake Creek 10:00pm
"When director Eli Roth created his faux trailer ‘Thanksgiving’ for Grindhouse, he claimed his inspiration was to fill a void. All other holidays had at least one 80s slasher degrading it. All holidays, but Thanksgiving. Thankfully, Mr. Roth was dead wrong. There are actual two 80s Thanksgiving slashers; Home Sweet Home (1981) and Blood Rage (1983). These films have plenty of underrated and bizarre moments that are going to get the Horror Remix love they deserve. We will be filling out the show with a movie that isn’t set at Thanksgiving- but DOES feature a wacked-out killer turkey- Blood Freak (1972)! This one-of-a-kind mess-terpiece satisfies on every level: drugs, bikinis, motorcycles, blood, and turkeys. And don’t forget, after each feature the snarky puppet MCs Cheesecake and Thunderclap do their damn thing! Join us for two hours of Turkey Terror that is not to be missed!"—John Gross via Drafthouse.com
Weird Wednesday: The Electric Chair
Alamo Ritz 10:00pm
"So, there’s a double murder and a guy gets put on trial but he’s exonerated and someone else is caught and forced to face the music. Admittedly, nothing very exciting there. But The Electric Chair is so much more than the sum of its parts. North Carolina Horror Movie Host and live “Spook Show” purveyor, Pat Patterson, dropped dead in 1974, but before he died he ripped this throbbing black eel of a movie out of his brain and threw it down like a gauntlet to the world. Though he lived in a small town, Patterson was apparently possessed by a deep and abiding hatred for small town life and values. This crude, hilarious film is such a one-of-a-kind piece that it’s hard to even consider it a real movie. It feels like a $100 church pageant. The actors are unable to plausibly impersonate members of the human race, let alone their characters; the dialogue is ridiculous and the special effects consist of a lit sparkler atop a hideous homemade electric chair. You won’t believe your eyes."—Lars Nilsen via Drafthouse.com

Master Pancake: The Notebook
11/12 7:00pm; 10:00pm
"This November, Master Pancake whips out their giant Sharpie and scribbles all over The Notebook, the romantic movie sensation of the decade that has left more boyfriends with moist shoulders than a gigantic army of shoulders caught in a rainstorm. James Garner plays Noah, who narrates the story-within-the-story to his lady friend Allie, who has Alzheimer's (for the memory-impaired, the writer has offered a mnemonic device you’ll never forget: Allie has Alzheimer’s). Ryan Gosling plays the young hero of the story, who takes one gander at Rachel McAdams and his goose is cooked. By the end of the movie there won’t be a dry shoulder in the house. Come on out, two by two, and see how Noah navigates this flood of tears as Master Pancake dives into the most sentimental movie ever made!"—John Erler of Master Pancake via Drafthouse.com
