Leprechauns. Those little bearded suckers have been charming and terrifying us for years, depending on how you view them. You’ll usually find them at the end of a rainbow, guarding a pot of gold. And sometimes, if you’re really lucky, you might see one in a movie. It might not be a nice one, though.

Leprechaun (1993)

This angry guy is probably the first movie leprechaun to come into people’s minds. He’s a bit grumpy and will stop at nothing to get back his gold, so it’s best to cheer clear of him.

Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997)

Warwick Davis’ horror leprechaun went on many murderous adventures. Once he went to Las Vegas. Twice he went to “the hood.” But his greatest adventure was when he went to space and spread his legend to alien life forms.

Leprechaun: Origins (2014)

For those who found Warwick Davis’ leprechaun too silly, here is an alternative “scary” version in the form of WWE’s Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl. Same deal, though. He’s small, and you do not want to touch his pot of gold, lest you want to lose a finger.

Darby O’Gill and the Little People (1959)

Even when leprechauns aren’t evil, they’re still mischievous, as we learn in this Sean Connery film in which a man must go up against them in a battle of wits. It turns out they are smarter than you’d think!

Finian’s Rainbow (1968)

This Fred Astaire-starring, early Francis Ford Coppola movie features a leprechaun named Og, who is desperate to find the man who stole his pot of gold. In the end, he falls in love with a beautiful woman and turns into a human. If only all leprechauns could be so lucky.

Getting Lucky (1990)

A high school kid finds a drunken leprechaun in - where else? - a bottle of beer. Now the leprechaun must grant the high-schooler three wishes. It’s not easy though, because he’s wasted all the time and has trouble with the potency of his magic.

The Wearing of the Grin (1951)

Yep, this is a Porky Pig cartoon in which Porky must do battle with a bunch of leprechauns who think he’s going to steal their gold. It’s only slightly more violent than the Warwick Davis horror films.

Red Clover (2012)

Another scary leprechaun. This one returns to a town that banished it to another dimension to exact revenge. If that doesn’t sound awesome enough for you, the film also stars Billy Zane, so you know it’s good.

The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns (1999)

This made for TV movie has everything. First there are leprechauns that become pals with a businessman. On top of that, we have a love story between a leprechaun and a fairy on opposite sides of a weird fairytale war. It’s pretty jam-packed with leprechaun goodness.
