Here at Fandango, we firmly believe the best way to beat the summer heat is to spend those long days in the air-conditioned comfort of your local movie theater. Let’s see what entertainment is coming your way with exclusive photos from this year's summer lineup!

In Mad Max: Fury Road, we met Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a badass warrior whose determination is matched by her skill with a rig. We learned a bit of her story in that movie, and now we’re getting the rest of it with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Anya Taylor-Joy stars as the younger Furiosa, kidnapped from an idyllic childhood only to be thrown into an ultra-violent world. Chris Hemsworth co-stars as the warlord Dementus, her kidnapper-turned-protector.
In the course of The Garfield Movie, Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) will meet his long-lost biological father (Samuel L. Jackson), get involved in a high-stakes heist and meet a whole cast of characters voiced by the likes of Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames and Snoop Dogg. He will also eat a lot of lasagna. This family comedy will entertain the kiddos while still giving their adults plenty to laugh at.
The hit manga and anime comes to America’s big screens. It’s all been leading up to a battle of the underdogs on the volleyball court, as the rivals-turned-dynamic duo of Hinata and Kageyama lead their Karasuno High team against rival Nekoma High in their ultimate showdown.
Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard star as three longtime friends who are drifting apart – so they go back to where it all began: summer camp. And if they can find the time between the zip lines, rafting and food fights, they might just remember why they need each other. The delightful comedy also stars Eugene Levy, Dennis Haysbert and Beverly D’Angelo.
Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett have always been on the right side of the law. But when a setup nearly nabs them, they find themselves on the run from their colleagues as they try to crack the case on their own. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back for the Bad Boys franchise’s fourth installment, and they’re just as quick with the quips as ever.
If director Ishana Shyamalan’s name rings a bell, there’s a good reason: Ishana Shyamalan is M. Night’s daughter. After writing and directing for television and serving as a second unit director on M. Night’s recent films, she’s ready to deliver her debut on the big screen. The Watchers tells the story of a young woman stranded in a remote forest with strangers, trying to survive in a place where mysterious creatures prowl by night. Shyamalan has described it as a “gothic fairytale”.
When we last peeked inside Riley’s head, high school was just a glimmer on the horizon. But now that she’s a teenager, she has whole new challenges on the horizon. The original emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust – are all back, but now they’re joined by Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment. Can they come together to help Riley settle into adolescence?
The Vandals started off as a social midwestern motorcycle club in the ‘60s, but as we follow them over 10 years, other motives start to emerge. Jeff Nichols wrote the screenplay (loosely based on a 1967 photo book) and directs a powerhouse ensemble featuring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist and Nroman Reedus.
Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos’s follow-up is a very different kind of film: An anthology of three stories featuring the same group of actors, exploring some of the different ways in which people connect – or don’t connect – with each other. The ensemble is led by Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau and Mamoudou Athie.
A 93-year-old woman might seem like ripe pickings for a phone scammer. As that phone scammer quickly finds out, Thelma is one 93-year-old lady who’s not going to take it lying down. June Squibb stars as the fiercely independent avenging grandmother, and Richard Roundtree gives his final performance as her reluctant sidekick. (And, yes, the stars did their own stunts!)
The first big-screen adaptation of the popular Japanese manga and anime series Blue Lock focuses on the character Nagi, a young man recruited to a high-stakes soccer training program for strikers who want to someday represent Japan on the world stage.
In recent years, Kevin Costner has returned to his neo-Western comfort zone, and that is not a bad thing. Costner co-wrote, directed and leads an ensemble cast in this multi-part story of America’s western expansion during the Civil War.
A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II showed us what happened when alien creatures came to a small, quiet farming town. What happened down the road in New York City? Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn are about to find out. Day One is a prequel to the first two movies, but Djimon Hounsou’s mysterious character from Part II is a potential bridge.
Gru has gone from super-villain to agent of the forces combatting villains. He’s happily settling into life as a husband and dad, and his wife and daughters are happy to have him around. Their son, Gru Jr.? Not so much. With new villains to fight and old friends like the Minions to contend with, Gru and the gang are in for quite a summer!
Maxine survived a massacre in X. Can she survive seeking fame in 1980s Hollywood? And how does the title character from Pearl fit in to all this? Director Ti West and star Mia Goth are back to wrap up the trilogy, alongside Halsey, Michelle Monaghan, Elizabeth Debecki and many more.
If you like your serial killer horror thrillers with a dash of the occult, Longlegs is for you. Maika Monroe stars as an FBI agent on the trail of a serial killer played by Nicolas Cage. Alicia Witt and Blair Underwood round out the main cast of a movie written and directed by Oz Perkins.
As he approaches his last days, an Icelandic widower goes on a journey to find his first love, who disappeared from his life 50 years ago. This stunningly beautiful movie takes us back and forth between the past and the present, as one man tries to wrap up his unfinished business while he can.
This space-age romance stars Channing Tatum as a NASA administrator and Scarlett Johansson as a marketing consultant. He’s focused on a moon landing. She’s focused on marketing that moon landing to the public, and readying a Plan B in case something goes wrong. Naturally, these opposites attract.
The 1996 movie Twister introduced us to the world of storm chasers. Twisters catches up with the next generation of storm chasers, who have diversified into two camps: The careful trackers, and an adrenaline-fueled crew who post their dangerous exploits on social media. It’s not long before storms and their chasers are on a collision course. Will anyone live to tell (or post) the tale?
There’s a great disturbance in the MCU timeline, so the Time Variance Authority calls in... X-Men? Thanks to the Disney-Fox deal, the TVA has a whole new group of superheroes to choose from – which is how frenemies Deadpool and Wolverine end up on an epic quest with universe-spanning implications. One with plenty of action and jokes, of course. It’s still a Deadpool movie.
This Sundance winner takes us to spend the summer of 2008 in the Bay Area with young Chris Wang, a 13-year-old Taiwanese American who’s learning to navigate the things that school and family can’t teach him.
Teenager Gretchen (Hunter Schafer) goes to live with her father and stepfamily in a nice, peaceful German resort... where she quickly learns that things aren’t quite what they seem.
You may remember Harold as the child who drew his world in the classic book. Well, the little boy has grown up, and he’s drawn himself right into the real world! This family fantasy stars Zachary Levi as the title character who reminds us that with imagination and a crayon, anything is possible.
Eli Roth ushers us into the world of the Borderlands game franchise, and what a dynamic world it is. Cate Blanchett cuts loose as Lilith, a bounty hunter on a mission. Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt and Edgar Ramirez play just a few of the characters she meets along the way.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, It Ends With Us stars Blake Lively as a woman trying to move past her difficult childhood. It seems she’s well on her way to a fresh start, moving to a new city and falling in love – but when her first love resurfaces, she must come to terms with her past and decide how it will affect her present and future.
Josh Hartnett stars as a dad who’s taken his teenage daughter to a concert, which turns out to be part of an elaborate trap for a serial killer. The twist? Josh Hartnett’s character is the serial killer. Will he be snared, or live to kill another day? It’s an M. Night Shyamalan movie, so anything is possible.
The Alien franchise returns with a standalone feature, directed by Fede Álvarez (2013's Evil Dead). This new installment, set between the first Alien and Aliens, follows young adults who face off with a terrifying life form. We’ve seen some pretty amazing characters from the other Alien films, so we’re excited to see what the Alien: Romulus team has cooked up to top them.
Zoe Kravitz makes her directorial debut with this taut mystery-thriller, in which a waitress is invited to a tech mogul’s private island. Things quickly begin to go wrong, including the functioning of memory. Kravitz also co-wrote the black comedy, which stars Naomi Ackie as the waitress and Channing Tatum as the tech mogul, with supporting turns from Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat, Geena Davis and more.
In this reboot of the series, Bill Skarsgard stars as the titular superhero, who’s back from the dead to avenge the deaths of himself and his love (played by musician FKA twigs).
The Kendrick Brothers first made a name for themselves with faith-based drama War Room. They revisit the setting with The Forge, in which an aimless young man is challenged to make something of his life through study and prayer.
THEY LISTEN
August 30
The folks behind They Listen have been tight-lipped about the plot, but here’s what we know: They Listen is written and directed by Chris Weitz and released under the auspices of Blumhouse. Stars include John Cho, David Dastmalchian, Katherine Waterston and Riki Lindhome. With credits like that, we can’t wait to see what they whip up.
