Who needs a host? Queen got all the big stars on their feet as the 91st Academy Awards show got underway, everyone singing along to a medley of We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions. From there, the awards were presented at a brisk pace; Green Book was named Best Picture, and took home two other Oscars besides, but Bohemian Rhapsody topped all other films in sheer numbers, receiving four Academy Awards in all.
It could be argued, however, that diversity was the real winner of the evening. Mahershala Ali (Green Book) and Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) received well-deserved nods for their best supporting performances, while Egyptian-American Rami Malek proudly accepted an Oscar as Best Actor and a parade of women were awarded Oscars for their short films and in production design, costume design and sound editing. Olivia Colman's win as Best Actress for The Favourite, though, was the biggest surprise of the night, as she received an award that was widely expected to go to Glenn Close for The Wife.
