With the June 15 release of Pixar’s Incredibles 2 quickly approaching, it is almost time to dress the family in their finest spandex and hit the cinema! Seriously, the kids will love that. Tag us on Instagram!
There are several ways to prepare for a summer blockbuster (we can feel it), especially a sequel. The most obvious, obviously, is to watch the original film, especially since The Incredibles may have been released before some of you were born. Next, find a list of fun facts about the film.
Oh, look, we have one! Let’s do this!
1. Are you wondering what the Parr family (secret identity!) has been up to in the 14 years since we left them mid-battle? Nothing! Incredibles 2 picks up right where The Incredibles left off, but things may still look a little different. For instance, The Underminer’s giant drill had five sides in the original film, but that design didn’t function properly for the sequel, so it now has six sides.
2. The Parr family don’t just love justice, they also care about the environment, hence their recycling ideas and/or footage rather than discarding it. For instance, there is a particularly funny scene involving Jack-Jack and a raccoon that was originally pitched for the first film, but instead makes its debut in Incredibles 2. In addition, an entire house was designed for our heroes, but when the Pixar team decided to go bigger and better (20,000 sq. feet!) with an “arrow up” design, many of the furnishings (layouts, etc.) from the first home were carried over to the new one.
3. Speaking of Jack-Jack, or more specifically, speaking for Jack-Jack (and recycling), the voice is provided by then infant—now 16-year-old—Eli Fucile. He was recorded by his father, supervising animator Tony Fucile, for an hour during production of the first film.
4. You can totally make Bob’s Incredible Waffles at home! And we will. [Update: We have.]
5. Elastigirl’s really cool Elasticycle is electric (see, environmentalists), which may not seem important on the surface, but consider that the team at Pixar incorporated the power source, namely the lithium ion battery, into explosions, etc. Bonus fun fact: At one point, the artists considered having Elastigirl herself stretch into the Elasticylce!
6. Edna Mode, a.k.a. E, the designer of all those awesome superhero outfits benefitted greatly from the advancement of technology between films. While the costumes were basically painted on heroes in the original film, each new one is now a textured pattern. Additionally, director Brad Bird has shared that Edna is Japanese-German, which influences her own fashion choices as well.
7. Once again we hear from Honey Best (wife of Lucius Best/Frozone) from offscreen, despite the fact she was fully designed as a character (the design was later used for a different character, because recycling is a theme that we’re seeing through for the entirety of this post).
8. Does someone sound different? Two voices had to be recast for Incredibles 2. Agent Rick Dicker is now voiced by Jonathan Banks following the passing of Bud Luckey. Dash is now voiced by Huck Milner due to Spencer Fox’s voice changing (it happens).
9. Easter eggs! Yes, the usual suspects (Pizza Planet truck, A113) are back, but rumor has it that there is also a Toy Story 4 Easter egg in Incredibles 2. The catch? We won’t know what it is until the former opens next year!
10. Prior to Incredibles 2, audiences will be treated to the Pixar short Bao. The word Bao in Chinese can mean “steamed bun” or “something precious,” and Bao is literally about both.
There you go, - “10 Incredibly Fun Facts About Pixar’s Incredibles 2!” Well, technically one was about Bao, but we’re okay with that. You are now ready to see Incredibles 2 on June 15. Dress accordingly.
