Beset by nightmares, Jean Berlot (Pavel Liska) visits an asylum at the suggestion of the debauched Marquis (Jan Tríska). The asylum embodies poles of excessive freedom and excessive discipline, and when Berlot falls for a woman there, he discovers how thin the line between madness and sanity is.
