What is Islander about?

Eben has lived on a small island farm off the coast of Maine for his entire life. When mainland lobstermen stray into waters reserved for islanders, threatening their tenuous livelihood, Eben loses his temper. Dire consequences result and he is forced to leave the island. When he returns five years later, the community that Eben left has changed; he is no longer wanted there. Ill equipped and unwilling to start again somewhere else, he patiently begins trying to reestablish a claim to the only life he has ever known.
