In 1992, during the time of the Georgian Civil War, young Dina (Natia Vibliani) is living in a traditional village in the region of Svaneti, high in the Caucasus Mountains, where customs have barely changed over the centuries, and the community is highly patriarchal. Dina falls in love with Gegi (George Babluani) despite her family’s disapproval, and has a child, but when Gegi dies, Svaneti traditions force Dina to marry Girshel (Girshel Chelidze) and give up her child to Gegi’s family.
