Oscar nom's peak my interest more than my dollars. I look at Trailers, some big names, and story line, if seeing it on the wide screen would really make a difference. Great computer graphics.
Sometimes, if I'd overlook a movie or two there's an influence there through an award nomination and many times it was certainly worth it too. I'm like oh wow...'I almost missed that. So yeah sometimes the People, Globe or Oscars nominations do help out in that way. Yet overall I pretty much seen everything I had on the list: which are awesome movies, too!!
THE OSCARS??To be honest, I lost interest in the oscars years ago. My decision to see or watch a movie is influenced mainly by the movie trailer and DEFINATELY not the Oscars!!
Can be either for me
No, not at all i would be more likely to go watch a movie if it was viewer rated. why do i care what a small group of people who critique the little things that most people dont notice nor care about think. Some of my favorite movies recieved poor reviews. Most of the time when I go to see a movie in the theatre its because the trailor looked interesting or that i heard it was a good movie.
Happens to me sometimes too
Just because the Academy recognizes certain films does not mean they are the better movies. I have seen a good amount of movies in the past and they have never been recognize for the Oscar race. It is a fun event to watch on TV but most of the time I go my own direction on what to chose for movie watching. I was happy when Gladiator won in 2001 because it was the better film. I do like the Best Picture Showcase because it creates hype to the Academy Awards. But normally I go with the movie fans on choosing my films and my own instincts.
@fandad, You were just going around saying you wouldn't go see a movie unless an actress got attention from the Oscars. I don't think you have the right to agree with the people who detest the Oscars.
I guess i do not, award nominations do not always make me decide. Not even a Kid's Choice award
**** No! I'm not a mindless sheep that follow some random people's opinions about movies. Why on earth would anyone do this? I despise people who can't think for themselves and have to see what everyone else is seeing. It makes me sick. If things like "Beasts of the Southern Wild" wasn't on your list already then you shouldn't be seeing it now, people like that won't even like that kind of movie. ******* sheep.
I'm sometimes mindless too
Best Picture nominations do influence my viewing. Some of my co-workers and I have a competition to be the first to see all the BP noms before the Oscars. This year's selections are 500 times better than last year's. At least I actually want to see or have already seen the majority of this year's.
The only reason I'm watching the Oscars is for Wreck it Ralph
As I critic, I feel obligated to see every movie nominated for Best Picture. So now I have to see "Amour" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild"
I don't respect the Oscars, therefore my decision is affected to a minor degree. If its Oscar nominated, then likely I wont see it, let alone even want to see it at all or that much, maybe BluRay. I use my own experiences and gut feeling to make my decision. Actors, Directors that I like, the story, and some trailers. However if I think I'm going to see it I don't watch the trailers. Point is, Oscars suck and dont help anybody. Big celebrity circle jerk, same type of movies all the time.
I usually wait till they come out on DVD or after Oscar night
Yep, whole reason why I'm seeing Lincoln
How was Lincoln matt
Yes, Oscar nominations affect or influence my decision. Oscar is a very respected award giving body and to have nomination would mean that you're good or one of the best....
Best Picture would mean worth watching for, best actor/actress worth seeing their performance, best cinematography, story line etc...
Sometimes it does the same thing to me. For example, after Oscar night last year, I wanted to see Hugo in 3D a month later. Then in the summer, I rented the Muppets and The Artist. And this past fall i rented Midnight in Paris and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Oscar nominations do not always influence my decision to see a movie sometimes it is the money word of mouth or the anticipation headlines
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
