Chalk another ‘80s movie up to the reboot/sequel/remake trend. Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is set to reboot the 1988 Tim Burton-Michael Keaton comedy Beetlejuice with the intention of advancing the storyline from the original.
This should be a sequel only! Bring back the original cast, with the exception of child pornographer Jeffrey Jones. Tim Burton is the ONLY person qualified to direct the film. Doing anything else would be an insult to the American public, an embarrassment to Hollywood and insult to Tim Burton and the original cast..
I AM VERY EASILY IRRITATED BY PEOPLE THAT USE CAPS AND I AM GOING TO LET THEM KNOW.
The role of Beetlejuice belongs to Michael Keaton. Not so good when you really enjoyed a movie and then they remake it with new actors. Too many remakes ... can't Hollywood think of new ideas anymore instead of hanging on to the coat tails of old classics?
Unfortunately and very sadly, we cannot bring back Glenn Shadix since he died from a fall last year.
I meant unfortunately and very sadly we cannot bring back Glenn Shadix since he died from a fall last year. Excuse the above site tempos.
Leave the movie Alone......Be original, Sick of Remakes! Are there NO Original Ideas anymore? Contagion? Wasn't that released before as Outbreak? I mean COME ON HOLLYWOOD WTF!?
Is nothing sacred anymore?? STOP doing remakes!!! Get an original idea!!! I swear if they start talking about remaking Animal House or the Blues Brothers I'm going ballistic!!
How pathetic Hollywood has gotten now.
They've lost their originality, and are relying more and more on re-makes.
I'm just waiting for them to remake Star Wars, Jaws, The Godfather, Indiana Jones and other true Hollywood iconic films of the 70's and 80's.
Don't laugh. I'll bet there are people trying to do it as I write this!
I say leave it alone. Not everything needs a sequel. Beetlejuice was done right THE FIRST TIME. Can Hollywood leave well enough alone for once?
There is no way that you can possible reboot beetlejuice!!!! You will ruin it. That is a moive that needs to be left alone. That would be like saying lets remake Goonies, or Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Edward Scissorhand never could be done. They need to realize that when they have a classic they have a classic. Not to touch them. Everyone still watches them. They have their kids watch them. My 10 year old knows these movies and when we say go pick a movie guess what she grabs one of these movies half the time. Don't ruin a good thing. You can never get a person to replace a person as good as the original cast member.
STOP MAKING BAD REMAKES OF GREAT MOVIES!!!!! You will never come close to touching Michael Keaton in the original. I refuse to see ANY of the remakes that are coming out of any of the great movies of the 80's. I want nothing to do with ANY of them. Where are all the NEW ideas?? there has to be SOMETHING you can do besides waste time and money on trying to recapture something you can't POSSIBLY do!!
lol at everyones comments...some i totally agree with, but hey we thought noone can ever do a great job of being JOKER in a batman movie, but Heath Ledger did a GREAT job. That dude was just as crazy as and evil with taht role as Jack Nicholson was. I'm not saying im super happy about the idea either cuz it does seem a little strange to remake, but......................................You just never know. : )
Johnny Depp is Tim Burton's favorite actor. They are both warped in a very entertaining way. I mean that in the very best way possible. Those two make magic together.
Beetlejuice was great. It was a one movie deal. The only people who will benefit from a sequel is the actors. It will completely tank unless Tim Burton directs it. Even with that I give it a month in the theater(maybe less), and the DVD sales will pretty much be nonexistent.
If you have to recast it, though, get Arnold Schwarzenegger for Beetlejuice, and Al(Ed O'Neill) and Peg(Katy Sagal) Bundy for the home owners. That seems just as ridiculous as this idea.
Original cast! Hell, yeah. Get Papajoe on board with this! The man has ideas!
Anyone but Robert Pattinson.
NO!!!!Johnny DEPP SHOULD!!! NOT!!!! PLAY BEETLEJUICE!!!!WHAT THE HELL'S WRONG WITH MICHAEL KEATON playing him!!!
hollywood will never learn to leave well enough alone they can eat my *** with a silver spoon. theres no creativity anymore is there?
I am actually disgusted at how many studios/directors are willing to churn out horrendous remakes of amazingly awesome movies, with the exception of Rob Zombie who did an awesome job with Halloween. Where is the new breed of talent who write THEIR OWN stories instead of riding on the coat tails of someone else's amazing productions. This is truly getting ridiculous.
If they insist on continuing the story line (or just re-making it) Michael Keaton should play the role. He's technically "undead" so can't change & doesn't age (w/all that make up) & for once it would be nice if part 2 had original characters. So few movies do that.
I also agree w/ everyone above. Hollywood has no imagination anymore. No original ideas. They either get their ideas from comic books or Greek mythology or tragedy.
The remake of Clash Of The Titans was horrible from a story point of view. The goal of the remake seemed to be to make an anti-Clash Of The Titans! There was no knowledge/respect of the Greek mythology that the original came from, Pegasus was black instead of white, they only mentioned the owl, to say leave it behind. Every time they anger the gods, there is an immediate response, usually with someone dying. So why do you still want to piss them off? And the final straw is Perseus doesn’t marry Andromeda! The constellation is named after her for a reason, but she is a minor sub-plot in this version.
But great action scenes, nice CGI work. Unfortunately, typical Hollywood remake stuff.
Johnny Depp in "Son of Beetle juice". No further explanation necessary. Just weird and zany antics... I like it.
Side note: I'm not sure Catherine O’Hara would be as funny as most of her humor was in her expressions. She'd have to develop a sharp tongue or something.
Not tha I had any respect for Hollywood before, but now it's worse! What happened to creativity and imagination? I think we should burn Hollywood down with everyone in it and start over.
Hollywood stop screwing up the best movies from the 80'!!!!
Johnny Depp is wonderful in most everything he does. Trouble is: we might get another Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Michael Keaton was brilliant as "The Ghost with the Most".
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
