Chalk another ‘80s movie up to the reboot/sequel/remake trend. Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is set to reboot the 1988 Tim Burton-Michael Keaton comedy Beetlejuice with the intention of advancing the storyline from the original.
I've never seen a reboot or remake of a classic that did 100 million. Name one. I just got the True Grit remake from netflix and watched Jeffy Bridges totally destroy the character of Rooster Cogburn and that idiot playing LeBeauf, what a joke. The movie sucked so bad. Most remakes are box office bombs and some go straight to DVD or bluray because they are nowhere near as good as the original classic. BTW, many classics are now making their way to bluray and my bluray also plays DV so I still get to watch all my favorite classics. The fact is remakes don't make a lot of money period.
Thanks for making my point; True Grit reboot grossed 171 million domestically and just about 80 million internationally, plus whatever you paid to rent it from Netflix.
An interesting fact: True Grit 1969 and 2010 are #7 and 8 respectively on the (adjusted for inflation) list of highest grossing westerns. [BLOCKED WEBSITE]
Just goes to show how many mindless idiots there are out there who watch these terrible remakes at the theater. That's where the money is, not necessarily netflix since I don't pay much for unlimited videos. The hype of TG 2 was what brought in the dollars not the movie itself since it sucked. If you tell someone something long enough, it becomes true to them. Unless they have a real brain and can distinguish between bullsh*t and reality. The trouble with TG2 is it's unoriginality and terrible acting.
Frankly, I'm not a western guy, only a realist so I'm not really here to opine about which movie was better, only state an obvious fact. Hollywood is in the business of making money period. If they don't think a movie is worth rebooting they won't do it.
While I respect your opinion and accept your idea that True Grit reboot was crap, the fact remains that it grossed 250 million all told box office and has enjoyed another 25 million in dvd/blu-ray sales.
You asked me to name a reboot that made 100 million, you did it for me. By the way, you only called about 23 million people who saw the film mindless idiots, but I guess you know best.
I think the people in hollywood need to start coming up with some original ideas. While remakes are all good and fun, it shows the lack of originality in hollywood writers today. Think for yourselfs. you'd be surprised what you come up with
Here's the deal. Hollywood is not in the business of keeping nostalgic fans of classic movies happy. They are in the business of making money. If reboots didn't make money they wouldn't film them.
The fact is, they cannot rerelease beetlejuice in it's original form and make 100 million in gross at the box office. However, do a reboot with modern actors and technology and just about anything will make 100 million.
There are many films I hold dear to my heart, God Father comes to mind. If Hollywood wants to film a reboot, so be it, last I checked I'm under no obligation to go watch it. Although, I'd probably watch it on Blu-ray when released out of curiosity (that's right, I said Blu-ray which must kill all you classic movie buffs).
PLEASE NO..... Hell Id rather see Pretty N Pink remade Its not worthy of a remake, not at all...
Please leave this movie alone. It's a timeless classic. Just leave it alone. Think up your own ideas for a change. Remakes are so over done.
Definitely won't be the same without the original cast. Bring them back!!!! Michael Keaton is the only Beetlejuice.
Tim Burton -
Give my main main a modern sandbox and all of the above for Beatlejuice, Beatlejuice... Beatlejuice... (by the way, the 3rd time is the charm...).
There is a ton of good movie to be had here, but only one darkest and most delicious of Directors can bring such a world to life for my liking Tim Burton.
Yes on Jim Carey, I would take a glutinous Jack Black - chubby Beatle as well!!
I would not turn down Will Ferrel or a extra creepy helping of Galifanakis. How about Gaffigan as an extra sunlight-averse trouble-maker from beyond or a movie debut by his Paleforce side-kick with Conan OBrien? - I'm not saying, I'm just saying. All of these as long as I get my Tim Burton and some darkness... there is only one director...
Tim Burton sux. nuff said.
FUDDY DUDDY FEEL THE NEED TO COMMENT ON EVERYTHING...
It has the potential to be good but at the same time a great chance to be a failure...
NO STOP IT HOLLYWOOD! JUST STOP IT! I know how this whole thing works cus I am in the industry also. Stop killing movies by re-making or making sequals. You guys know how much money they make. It never works out how you want it to.
Also, there was a script for a second film that was never made and thank god it never did. (Beetlejuice in Hawaii???? No)
IF a film were to form PLEASE have the original cast in there!

bring back the original cast, 25 years later, with winona dealing with a daughter just like her.
^^^ LOVE IT! LOVE IT LOVE IT!
My first thought was "ooh this might be cool & they could use Johnny Depp as Beetlejuice! He likes the twisted stuff but I absolutely LOVE the idea of bringing Winona back with a daughter!
I see a 3-D movie with Jim Carey.
Can Beetlejuice have a father????? I see Jack Nicholsen playing that part. And somewhere, sonehow Kirstie Alley....maybe as Beetlejuice's wife???
I see that too, and I puke.
The ONLY way it will work is with the original cast and if Burton directs it. Otherwise, leave a GREAT thing ALONE!
Really? I see a braindead zombie. Jim Carrey? You have got to be kidding. Leave this film alone. I does not need a sequal or a remake.
