Taylor Lautner Almost Cast in 'X-Men: First Class'

Could you see Taylor Lautner going from the Twilight franchise to the X-Men franchise? Would a move like that totally mess up you hardcore fanboys who love X-Men but despise Twilight? Probably. And, honestly, it would've been a great move for the guy – a film that could help lift the Twilight stain off his shirt, allowing him to roll around in the mud with the dudes for awhile – if, ya know, there weren't scheduling conflicts.

Taylor Lautner

Speaking about X-Men: First Class over the weekend, Bryan Singer (who's now producing instead of directing because he had his own batch of scheduling conflicts) admitted that he really wanted Taylor Lautner to play a role, but the young, in-demand actor was unfortunately too busy shooting something else. Singer told SciFi Wire, "I wanted Taylor [Lautner] to do it, I really did. He's doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction and then he's got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn't look like it's possible to do it."

There's no word on who Lautner would've played, though looking over the roles that have been cast so far, I'd say he probably would've taken on a young Banshee or Beast. Not for nothing, but it would've been funny if he played a guy who turned into a beast considering, ya know, he plays a dude who turns into a wolf in the Twilight movies. But I digress …

Sound off X-Men fans – would Lautner's involvement totally have ruined the next film for you, or are you sort of itching to see what this kid can do outside the Twilight universe?

I can't think of one single negative reason for Taylor to portray ANY character he has a feel for. He is amazing!! Give "Twilight" a rest. It is ONLY a movie and I LOVE it, but stories AND actors move on. I'd love to see Rob Pattinson in "The Portrait of Dorian Gray" an absolute classic!! I'm 71, so I've seen a LOT of movies and those guys are wonderful. Let them create and then go enjoy them!!

I think the young Actor Taylor Lautner could definately protray one of the Classic MARVEL X-MEN characters for he certainly has a strong demeanor about him, too bad his schedule is filled up (and that's good..'I wish them all busy schedules!) for X-MEN Franchise are Classic treasures.

He is a natural fit as a superhero. He is skilled at martial arts. He would also bring girls to the X-Men fan base. I like them both. I don't think guys would care. Are they really not going to watch because of one actor? I doubt it.

Work is just that. If Taylor can find a place in any movie role, jump on it. Gotta pay the bills, right? Anyone can help or destroy a movie with their acting. Twilight is really lightweight, spread your wings dude, and fly.

Taylor Lautner is a great actor, people (especially guys) shouldn't judge him because he's in the Twilight Saga. He would have been great in X-Men. I hope he gets a lot of movies because he is such a good actor. No way he would have ruined the X-Men series.

Taylor has a great future and any franchise would be happy to have him. He'll be bringing in the teens agers for years to come and that equals dollar signs in the theaters. Besides, he already knows martial arts so he would fit in fine with the X-Men cast.

Taylor is the one of the only good things about Twilight.(well him and the girl who plays Alice) I would not have been dissuaded by his presence. Now if Pattinson were to land a role i might be judgemental of him cause well that guy can't act but still I'm 100% on board for first class. I cant miss it because of questionable casting. No matter what im going to see it1

Yes, it would completely ruin the franchise. But I do think he would make a good Jubilee.

I know how my grown son feels about Twilight. If Taylor Lautner had starred in X-Men it might have completely ruined his love of the franchise.

I loved X-Men and I've seen all of the Twilight films. Taylor has a great fan base and I'm sure he will bring it with him to X-Men. I say go for it! The X-Men Camp really should have worked him into the schedule. I can't wait to see what he does next. X-Men folks, you're missing out.
