Sony Pictures is currently in the process of securing the film rights to Steve Jobs, the upcoming authorized biography on the late Apple co-founder.
The book, which goes on sale Oct. 24, was written by Time magazine managing editor Walter Isaacson and is an intimate look at Jobs based on forty interviews conducted over two years with Jobs as well as more than a hundred family members, friends, competitors, colleagues and adversaries.
According to Deadline, Jobs approved the biography after fighting off a long list of authors, choosing Isaacson, who previously wrote about Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin and Henry Kissinger.
Pre-order sales for Jobs’ autobiography spiked an eye-popping 42,000% following his death on Oct. 5th, moving from 424nd on Amazon's overall book sales to #1. The book currently ranks at #3 for Barnes and Noble.
Sony seems to be the perfect studio for this biopic, which will attach Saving Private Ryan financeer Mark Gordon as producer. Last year, Sony Pictures released the award-winning The Social Network, a fictionalized biopic about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to critical and commercial success.
In 1999, Noah Wyle starred as Jobs in a TV movie titled Pirates of Silicon Valley, with Anthony Michael Hall portraying Bill Gates and Joey Slotnick as Apple-co-founder Steve Wozniak.
