We’ve been wondering for awhile now what M. Night. Shyamalan would do next, especially coming off a really big movie (The Last Airbender) that didn’t exactly become a hit with fans. Would he take some time off from directing, or would he dive right back in with another unique project? What we do know is that he’s been busy growing his Night Chronicles brand, which includes movies based on ideas and concepts he’s had (like Devil), and now, according to Heat Vision, he’ll be teaming up to direct a film that he did not write himself (a rarity for the controversial filmmaker).
Will Smith, M. Night Shyamalan, Jaden Smith
Sixth Sense was a total shock. It came out od nowhere and was unlike anything we'd been accustomed to seeing. Unbreakable was a comic movie before comic movies were cool! Both were great movies. Signs was an interesting take on Alien encounter movies. And The village was an intersting premise with some good acting, but will agree was not ,arketed well by any means. Lady in the water was so stupid. and the Happening was just boring and anticlimatic. This leads me to believe he should stop writing films and just work with someone elses script if that tanks then he should throw in the towell. I believe he should try just directing. it couls be the way to go for him.
I agree with Getsuei, Last Airbender is the only movie of his that I didn't like, but that was because of the low budget and horrible script. And I absolutely loved Devil. Had me guessing until the very end. I'll watch his movies whether he writes them or not, as long as they look interesting to me. And a more sci-fi-ish project from him will be nice. I liked what he did with the aliens in Signs, so for him to go back to that genre will be cool.
point of clarification:
1. last airbender was one of the biggest movies of the year with a budget of 250 million.
2. m knight wrote the script.
you are right on those but don't forget that the story or characters didn't change like other cartoon and video games related movies, so the ones that have at least seen an episode of Avatar: The Last Air Bender ~The Legend Of Aang~ already new what was coming to theaters. looking it from that point of view it was not a bad achievement, no needing to say that if the story would have changed people would have been saying this and that. this movie sums up the whole season one of the cartoon series, so we are up to expect 3 more to come, I guess??
Maybe having Smith as a producer will help
I have pretty much loved every film he's made (Though The Last Airbender was not my favorite). Now most people will think I'm more than a little off for say that, but it's simple, if you don't appreciate his movies, then you don't appreciate his movies. It dose not make them bad, nor he a bad director, it just means that they did not appeal to you. Needless to say I will be excited to see any project he does.
I am a Shyamalan fan! I trust him. And just like anything else you put your trust in, they sometimes let you down. But to tell an artist to quit is counterproductive. His next project just might be AMAZING! I want to be there when his is... =)
Lady in the Water was a pretty interesting film to watch, The Village was misleading (trailer made us think it was going to be a scary movie but it turned out to be anything but scary). But all you people hating on M. Night need to really piss off because maybe he doesn't want to always be known for his scary and intense films. Maybe he wants to explore the genres and make other cool movies, The Happening was amazing as well and he is a decent director all in all.
M. Night should never ever be involved in ANY movie making project. His movies totally blow and are just plain weird with out any type of reasoning..M. Night needs to move to Iowa and become a car mechanic....We should never have to be subjected to this obvious mental case....sincerely, Paradise27000@yahoo.com
M. Night Shamalan needs to stop making anything related to movies. He seems to stain every project he is on, and it would be unfortunate for Jaden Smiths Career to end so early by doing this film. He should go back to... Bollywood. Did you see the twist there?
He needs to quit directing. I personally now believe that he got lucky with 6 Sense, Unbreakable and Signs, because everything he's made after those 3 movies has been pure garbage. He sucks big time now!!!
"What a twist!"
The last decent M. Night project -- Devil -- was not directed by M. Night. He needs to prove to us that he can direct a decent movie. He can no longer rest on his -- now years old -- laurels. Time to put up or shut up ... or retire.
I think "The Last Airbender," was the straw that broke the camels back. I think Shyamalan is a directorial bust and he shouldn't make movies anymore.
As an experenced director, as M. Night Shyamalan is, it should not matter if he wrote it or not. His job as a director is to put the movie together for us.
I totally agree.... It shouldn't matter if he writes the movies or not. I would see them either way as long as it is something that sparks my interest to watch as most of his movies do..
"Welcome to the party, pal."

"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
