Keira Knightley, Lily Collins Eyed For 'Romeo and Juliet' Re-Imagining

It seems everything is getting a “re-imagining” these days. With three Snow White movies, a Cinderella adaptation and an origins version of Peter Pan set to arrive in theaters in the near future, it only makes sense that Hollywood would return to the familiar well that is Shakespeare.

Two Shakespeare-themed movies are set to release in the near future – the Ralph Fiennes-directed Coriolanus in which he co-stars with Gerard Butler on December 2nd, and the Roland Emmerich Shakespeare-was-a-fraud movie Anonymous sometime in 2012. Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth are set to remake Romeo and Juliet for a late 2012 release, but now word today from Vulture that Keira Knightley and Lily Collins are leading contenders for a Romeo and Juliet re-imagining titled Rosaline.

Reps for both actors haven't responded as both actors are busy with forthcoming features - Knightley will reportedly star in an adapataion of Anna Karenina due out in 2012 while Collins in currently filming Tarsem Singh's Snow White adaptation.

The script, penned by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (500 Days of Summer) is to be based on Rebecca Serles’ soon-to-be-published novel When You Were Mine, which goes on sale next May. Shawn Levy has come on board to produce and insiders say Knightley is both Levy and 20th Century Fox’s first choice to play the role of Rosaline. Collins is mentioned as a “strong contender,” though Serles mentioned that she had someone entirely different in mind – Roswell’s Shiri Appleby.

Who would you cast as Rosaline, the girl Romeo first claims to love from afar before he spots Juliet?

Keira Knightly leaves such an impression on every roll she plays. She is a star, not a supporting actress. As for Lily, she is up and coming...let's see shall we? I always love Shiri Appleby too :)

I see Lily more as Juliet so I'd have to go with Keira for Rosaline, though I'm not sure I like that storyline at all anyway.

Shakespeare has been done and redone and re-imagined by Hollywood for decades. It's just a matter of time between one film's take and the next.
