James Bond is Back in Classic 'Skyfall' Teaser Poster

By: Sean OConnell on May 17, 2012 at 9:50AM Comments (50)
The familiar eye, which acts as a target scope. A black-and-white silhouette of the world’s most famous spy. James Bond (Daniel Craig) is back, and this brand new teaser poster for November’s Skyfall announces his presence with classic style.

The pic was posted to 007.com. It doesn’t tell us much beyond what you likely already knew. Craig is back in the tuxedo for his third Bond adventure, which will be the 23rd chapter in the long-running series. American Beauty helmer Sam Mendes directs the story, which is supposed to pit Bond against Javier Bardem and test his friendship with M (Dame Judi Dench).

We’ll likely learn a lot more about Skyfall when the first full trailer arrives in theaters next week, ahead of Sony’s Men in Black 3. There’s also a rumor that it will debut online first, possibly as early as Monday. Until then, here’s the teaser poster. Does it get you excited for Skyfall? Or were you going to be in the theaters – shaken not stirred – regardless? Let us know.

Craig is the best Bond since Connery. It's impossible to pick one over the other since they are separated by a half century shaken Martini's . Bond the "blunt instrument" is more interesting (to me) than Bond the fully-formed man of the world. Side note: Robert Shaw was the best Bond villain ever! P.S. A vodka martini includes Martini and Rossi dry vermouth. Why is this eponymous ingredient almost always omitted by modern bartenders. Makes me wish I was packing a Walther PPK.

The Bond movies are still good but have gone away from the original formula by taking out the character actors and the humor that exsisted in the former ones. Q is just as much a part of the formula as all of the others that the author wrote into his books. This is one of the longest running franchises and simply for that reason, leave it alone! I love Daniel Craig as Bond, but bring back the humor please. Just because other movies are being redirected and rebooted and rewritten doesnt mean ALL of them need to be-any TRUE James Bond fan knows that.

well I must agree somewhat with "IamTheEggManIamTheWalrus" he has a pointlet me tell you a few reasons why. #1 Bond does not wreck his car EVER #2 Bond would never need to carry a defibrillator in his car. I mean come on was he expecting a heart attack??? #3 He would never fall in love PERIOD especially not with Money Penny #4Bond never changes his drink!!!!!!!!!!!! Must I go on its becoming to painful. He would make a great Bond if they didn't furn him into a pansy. Maybe it was all that ball crushing he got in his last movie. Ha ha

Originally the viewer  had the same point of view as the bullet that was to come out of the barrel (thank you very much M Newman ) that was aimed at James Bond as he was walking. He would then turn with his own gun ready to take down the villain who had him in his sights. Why Daniel Craig's James Bond is walking through a barrel like tunnel is beyond me. I'm hoping it takes him to a Bar Where He Can Order A MARTINI, SHACKEN, NOT STIRRED. And he better give a damn. although yes the Vesper was the original drink in the Casino Royale Novel/movie.

As a huge fan of the classic Bond(Sir Connery) I loved Craig's Casino Royale. It showed his unrefined more ruthless and reckless side.Cant lie it threw me when they casted him because let's face it,he's not a pretty boy lik Moore,Dalton or even Moore. He was more aggressive like SC.I think the writing is what will determine if we see more Bond films with Craig and consecutively slated.Sky

I will say, that the James Bond movies with Daniel Craig are not Bond movies, but action movies. Bond was always a womanizer, not anymore ! Now he is avoiding women because he is all messed up from losing his love. Not a Bond movie. Where is the slight humor ? There is always cool gadjets.... where are they now ? These are the things that made a Bond movie stand out from an action flick. Now, it's an action flick. The younger generation will never appreciate that technological, slightly far fetched futuristic view that Bond movies gave us. The new movies have removed all of that. These are not Bond movies. Yes, they are good action movies. I am not running the movies into the ground, I am simply seeing that they are not BOND.movies.

Skyfall got held up for a moment and I got worried there would be no redemption for Quantum of Solace.I hated the writing.Clearly geared towards the ladies to fuel the fantasy of a bad*** Alpha losing his way over a woman. So this movie will either win me back over or lose me until they change the Bond again.Let's see some more womanizing and manipulation.I'm all for humanizing the character but don't cut off his cajones!

Gentlemen, Maurice Binder designed the gun barrel logo in 20 minutes using a pinhole camera technique to get a sharp photo down a .38 caliber barrel. If you compare this poster to the gun barrel logo that Eon Productions has been using since Dr. No, it's the same gun barrel superimposed over a tunnel that Craig is walking through. You can see the walls of the tunnel and the fade of the walkway behind him. They simply placed the classic gun barrel logo over the photo of Craig in a tunnel. I don't know why Craig is in a tunnel, but perhaps that will be an actual shot from Skyfall? Either way, I like that they placed the gun barrel logo over the tunnel. Bond is not walking inside a gun barrel, he's walking inside a tunnel....

Regarding all the negative comments about the poster: As a graphic designer, it's not the sharpest design I've ever seen,. But on a conceptual level, I think it's fine. A barrel large enough for Bond to stalk down menacingly may simply be the artist's, via the studio heads, metaphorical way of showing Bond walking, literally, into a dangerous situation. But I don't think the imagery itself is meant to be taken literally. I would've gone to see this movie regardless of the teaser poster, studio hype, fan buzz, etc. We're way overdue! And Daniel Craig brings a rawness and freshness to the role that I think absolutely harkens back to Connery back in the day. Bring it on!

Timothy Dalton was at the end of the gun barrel in some of "The Living Daylights" movie posters, so this is not the first time for that. As for Bond in the "spotlight" or "eye," that was done in "Dr. No." It just didn't have any rifling that time.

When Daniel Craig came on board, I think the Bond producers were trying to freshen up the franchise. That meant looking at what worked in the 60s and 70s and even 80s and re-evaluating whether or not it would still work present day. I like the Craig era, but you made an astute observation: these are just really good actioners, but not necessarily "Bond Movies" as we know them. Having said all that, I think Pierce Brosnan was doing just fine, and his movies had more of Bond flair to them. Slick, stylized, over-the-top and fun.

Remember the 'American Beauty' posters? They were artistic, titillating - intriguing. This Skyfall poster leaves me cold. It's a pedestrian shot: reads 'old-fashioned' as opposed to film-noir or old formula made new. The gun-barrel has been expanded to look like Bond is lost and now tip-toeing through a sewer pipe. Really bad. Daniel Craig is a wonderful 'Bond," and I hope Skyfall does him, and the series, justice. In a sad-sack year for movies, everyone I know is yearning for some solid, exciting summer fare!

I agree, Mr. Sean O'Connel must not be a big Bond history buff to not know that the image depicts the inside of a gun barrel. And whomever created the poster also is in the dark as the perspective this provide is of a gun barrel that is the size of a New York City sewer. The inside of the gun barrel was alway depicted in the leaders of Bond Films in the past, but I don't think Bond ever was inside the inside of a gun barrel before. As for Daniel Craig, I think he makes for a great Bond, and if you havent noticed, Sean Connery is bit old for the part. I will watch this film, no matter the goofs on the poster.

It's representative of Bond always breaking the rules. It's a slick stylistic choice that accurately reflects the character. The perspective is both purposeful and effective. Unfortunately an decreasing number of people are capable of viewing things through a creative lens. Or so it would appear, anyway.

@Dave: Unfortunately, I think you're right. Society has become more and more literal. It's a shame. Studio heads listen to the public and the artwork gets more and more dumbed down. (No offense to anyone here. I'm not calling you dumb.)

Yeah, I don't think the person who created the poster knew that it was a gun barrel and the swirls were the rifling. Probably some artistic type who thought it would be cool and didn't realize the poster doesn't make sense... James Bond walking inside a gun barrel... unless Skyfall is the codename for a ginormous gun!!! Spoilers!!!

Or it's a metaphor for Bond walking into danger, as he always does. Sometimes those "artistic" types really are thinking conceptually.

Bond movies have really been aweful as of late. I wish they would bring back the real bond instead of this shell of a bond. Daniel Craig is just not that good as bond. If you go back and watch Sean Connery as bond you will know the REAL bond. Daniel Craig is a little girl compared to Mr. Connery. Most men think daniella craig is a good bond because then do not know what a real man is anymore since most men have been so watered down. daniella craig is a watered down man and a watered down bond.
