Did you know that this is Tolkien Week, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit? Neither did I, but that’s why we have Peter Jackson, a dedicated student of all things Tolkien who’ll bring a three-part adaptation of Hobbit to theaters beginning in December … and the Oscar-winning director has a few tricks up his sleeve for this week.

To begin with, eight new images from Jackson’s first Hobbit film, An Unexpected Journey, have been shared on USA Today. We have three below. Click this link for the rest.

And in his latest Facebook post, Jackson informs fans that his “contribution” to the global Tolkien Week will be the premiere of the latest trailer, which will arrive online on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Jackson says “special content” also will be shared with the fans “in a day or two,” so it would be wise to follow the director on Facebook and check back often.

We’ll have the latest Journey trailer once it has been made available. In the meantime, peruse that gallery of images, and count down the minutes until you’ll get the next long look at Jackson’s first Hobbit film.
