Most people take the Golden Globes with a grain of salt when it comes to predicting Oscar, and this year's no different. One thing that seems sure, though, is that Heath Ledger will get that posthumous Academy nod after all.
Today's nominations announcements included the young actor, who died of an accidental drug overdose in January, in the supporting actor category--but surprisingly left the movie out of other important ones, like best picture and director. Instead, those categories included movies that either haven't come out yet (Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road) or opened to a small audience (anyone see In Bruges?). Here's the complete list.
Weigh in: Did Dark Knight deserve more?
Hey broad way sometimes people want that as an escape from their day to enjoy a fun movie without having to ponder every possible moment as a life or death, moral dilemma or higher power / meaning. Some movies can be just fun. Without having to be the masterpiece of the year. It's called the movies. Plus you basically insulted everyone who goes to see the type of movie you described. In Bruges is very good. But The Dark Knight is great on many levels. Including popcorn feeding. Pompous is not a good look my friend.
I have seen IN BRUGES and really enjoyed it. It was a great deal better than most of the
commercial junk that is out there. Most movies today require one to check their brain at the
concession stand and to pick it up as they leave the theatre..
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
