Hardwicke Dumped from 'Twilight' Sequel

In a surprising Twilight twist, director Catherine Hardwicke is definitely off the sequel New Moon. Summit Entertainment confirmed the rumors today, but didn't give any hint of the reported rift between the director and the studio (Hardwicke was supposedly "difficult" and "irrational"), saying only that scheduling difficulties caused the decision and adding, "Catherine and Summit have agreed to part ways on the sequel because our visions are different."

After grossing a cool $139 million in three weeks, studio execs will no doubt get a jump on hiring someone else in time for the March '09 start date. Help them out and suggest a director you think would do the best job on the Twilight sequel.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have a laugh on the set.
