It’s Cinco de Mayo and frankly, there’s no better day to bring back The Five! With summer quickly approaching, a bunch of superhero movies are just about set to hit theaters. Take a look below at The Five Most Anticipated Summer Superhero Movies and feel free to sound off in the poll and comment section, and let us know which movie you’re looking forward to the most.
Thor, Captain America, Cowboys and Aliens, X-Men First Class, Green Lantern
Of the seven potential to definate blockbuster comic book / graphic novel based books such as: Thor, X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern, Captain America: The First Avenger, Cowboys vs Aliens, Conan: The Barbarian, and Transformers 3; Thor, with a rock solid script, cast, direction and epic production value seem to be by far the best of the group. It will not be the higest money maker, nor the most popular character in fan base, but I'm certain that it will be the best overall produced and acted film of the group. There are serious contenders here that will be unwise to bet against. Steven Spielberg's Cowboys vs Aliens with Daniel Craig and the popularity of and special effect heavy, Transformers 3; which will be the prize winner of them all in the box office ticket sales, but perhaps the third weakest in script and weakest period in acting. Captain America and Green Lantern looks more promissing with the latest trailers and may hold up well compared to Thor box office wise, but certainly will lack in story as well as direction at times. Which leaves X-Men and Conan. The latter is mostly for men only clubs heavy in testerone. If there is a serious plot and script here, This could be the sleeper in the set. Otherwise, rank it not second but seventh. The preview looks pretty good and the actor looks like Conan's "Red Nails" rendered version of the character. Very nice indeed. X-Men is popular, but Fox, not Marvel is in control of the script here. Thus changes to the origins, story arc will most likely be pervasive enough here for true X-Men fans to look forward to the day Marvel takes control (a third re-boot) and do it right like they did with Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk. What is going for Captain, is Marvel and it's lead into the upcoming Avengers film for 2012. In an early prediction as to best made, but not neccessarily most money made of this group will be as follows: Thor, Captain America, Cowboys vs Aliens, Conan, X-Men, Green Lantern, Transformers 3. As for block buster sales go: Transformers 3, X-Men, Cowboys vs Aliens, Captain America, Thor, Green Lantern, & Conan.
What seems to be missing in all these comments is imagination. How would you like to be in the shoes or "costume" or these lead characters if it were possible in real life? How would you like to be a Hero? When I go to see these fun things: 1. I plan on enjoying it to begin with. and 2. I put myself in the role of the starring character.
Unless the character was evil, amoral or profane I will always come out satisfied at least to some degree.
The movies I don't see as enjoyable, fun or fulfilling I will generally just avoid.
Everything BUT Thor!!! Cpt. America is definitely going to blow Thor out of the water as far as the box office and epicness.
Thor is doing pretty well so far. Captain America will probably do better, because of wider recognition.
Exactly, it's for that reason and the side fact that apparently there wasn't a lot of interest for Thor (maybe the trailer wasn't cool enough or something) but after a while people weren't really anticipating Thor for some weird reason.
--"Cpt. America is definitely going to blow"-- I agree up to this part.
@NassaDane- Are you kidding me? Cpt. America is going to be so epic, the cast, the animation/graphics, the storyline which is supposed to be extremely detailed and to the comics almost scene for scene and not to mention the fact that just like mman said in the above comment, he's got a wider fan base so I'm going to say it's safe to predict a good $90 million-150 million the opening weekend, not including the tickets that people will buy ahead of time.
Eh, Cpt. America might do good money wise but doesn't look good to me as a movie. The trailers look pretty bad and embarrasing also just him in general was always a dumb super heroe. If i do see the movie it will probably be next year on TNT or FX.
... provide a fresh respit form probable repetitiveness. 3.The trailers have suggested a weel done action offering with effects to match cast, scenery, sound and cinematography that should make credible the reality of its fantasy.
Certainly any of the five could be considered worthy. My choice, Cowboys and Aliens, was selected based on three crieria: 1. First, its preducers have already surpassed the others in pre-release publication. While I am not sure if this may have been due to re-lease date postponements, nonetheless trailers and in-theatre ads piqued my interest long ago and effectively. 2. The story carries with it a totally out of pardigm approach to the standard "earth being invaded by aliens" plot. An it has a strong cast that appears to be able to carry it off. The others are wonderful heroes based on strong Marvel/Comic book traditions, this choice C and A simply provides a diverse approach in a group with so many similarities, the odd man out will ...
Cowboys and Aliens should NOT have been on that list! It is on my list of must-see movies for this summer, but it is not a super-hero movie!
That might be true...For me there are all kinds of heros in this world, super or not. I am just suggesting people go with an open mind and let the movie take you where it will. Hopefully with the actors involved, Harrison, Daniel, Sam....we won't be disappointed. I think it is ironic that when I first saw Star Wars I came out thinking, "I had just seen a western movie with a futuristic storyline." Now with "Cowboys and Aliens" we are getting the futuristic story told in a old time western theme. That's Hollywood!
Saw Thor last night at the early midnight showing and DAMN!!! It did not disappoint. Can't wait to see him again in the Avengers movie next year and will definitely be going to see it again. My advise to all movie goers: Don't miss Thor!
im starting to get excited for X-men and Captain America and CvA..GL not so much but i will give it a shot..ill probably be seeing Thor tomorrow at the latest
THOR THOR THOR! and a double THOR! With the power of ASGARD! NUFF SAID!!!!!!!! I'm not a Fan boy for Marvel or DC but I know the power of THOR and he Kicks ass !! He went up against Superman, and GALACTUS! He is a God! No competion at the box office 100 million and still going up. I will see it at least 100 times. I like Cap. Lantern,Xmen,Dark Knight,Johnny Depp,Avengers,Superman,Spiderman,Hulk, Iron man, and Surfer. But thank thee for thou has made the movie THOR!
I love Galactus the world devourer he who eats planets to live unlike thor who eats eggs, ham.bread and drinks wine COSMIC POWER 4EVER.
CvA is not a superhero movie, but looks really good. Green Lantern looks like a tv movie - just to me looks like it is lacking depth. Part of my interest in Thor & CA is the eventual tie in to the Avengers. I'm most looking forward to XMen even though they are changing most if not all of the original histories. If this one is good, I wouldn't mind either line having additional sequels. I think they are still owned by Fox, not Marvel, so it is up to them.
Ok….cowboys verses aliens….the idea is laughable…..but I am an a veteran action movie junkie and proud of it. The next best thing is a good old fashion western (not the modern attempts). So when you put in the mix, Daniel Craig’s intense eyes and Harrison Ford‘s ability to take action movies to a different level…. Plus ladies please….the thought of Hans Solo in a cowboy outfit….I AM THERE. Forget $5 Tuesdays or Wacky Wednesday….opening night I will be there….popcorn in hand with an open mind and ready to be taken for a ride. I admit what kind of ride is yet to be determined. There is a time and place for a love story, a movie that makes you laugh or a movie that makes you think…this is not that kind of movie. You can be bewitched by Harry Potter or transformed by a robot….as for me and my imagination I can’t wait to see Ford in action.
I am right there with you Momapeeps....Han Solo in anything (or nothing) is worth the price of a ticket!
Amen to that girlfriend!
so cowboys and aliens is a super hero movie but harry potter isn't??
I think what they're counting as super hero is all movies that originated from comic books. Hence why harry potter isn't on here.
Xmen is the only one i am actually excited for. The rest look bad. Craptan America looks very bad, Green Lanturd looks even worse and Thor (dang! can't think of a pun for this one) it looks ok, i'll see it eventually on 5 dollar Tuesdays perhaps but other movies will be seen before that one. Xmen is really bringing it! It seems to have more Grandure than the others. This summer is going to be great with Devil's Double, The Beaver, Midnight in Paris, Submarine, Beginners, The Perfect Host, Hobo with a Shotgun, and Hesher! These are my summer block busters.
You really should do yourself a favor and go see Thor. It was completely epic and is easily one of my favorite comic book movies I've seen.
I am stoked for all five of these films. This summer is going to be off the hook!!!
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
